Obviously a worst case scenario but how much could we reasonably afford?

I'm amongst many who have deferred their Sky subscription. Inevitably, the broadcasters will want to recoup their outlay.

Furthermore, if all this season's fixtures aren't completed then presumably we would be entitled to a refund of 22% of our season ticket price?

For that reason alone I can't see those outstanding games not being completed later in the year.

I wouldn’t be surprised if football imploded from here. Be interesting being a fly on the wall during this. They all need each other right now. Clubs and tv companies.

if you reorganised things you may lose some paying power but football shows that the paying power is there - and whatever your politics their salaries compared to the 98% who struggle was beyond the pail before this, now it's doomed - they will have to hand over the readies in some shape or form basically., f*ck two generations of debt let's have a football tax, and it would be paid for by Sky.

mind you total salaries in the prem prob only come to £1billion if that so you wouldn't get much so I clearly don't know what I'm on about - apart from being a tw*t it is clearly utterly wrong to put the non playing staff on the 80% rate, the players could agree to taking a 20% to pay the clubs' wages.

... who would then pass it on to their subscribers!

Football could be pricing itself out of the reach of the masses. At the end of the day, do we really need football? It doesn't rank up there with health, food and a roof over our heads. If we have to make choices then I know what I'd drop.

I think yo are right. First it was seating. Next it will be 2 metre rule which will reduce crowds by 80%. Watching games in nearly empty stadia with little or no atmosphere won’t do it for me either live or on telly. No pub viewing. Man we are going to see big changes. The great game could be heading for the dust.

I can't say much football played before next season start

How do you think it should end?

I'm in favour of top two promoted and no relegations. Possibly play offs on August for one extra place and then 4 relegated the following season. I know we were relagated like this when they restructured the top division

Liverpool so far ahead would be cruel not to name them champions

Hopefully clubs would give a relative discount to season tickets for the following season and to ticket holders of unplayed games

I also tend to think this would be the best solution. With each passing week the chances of completing the season becomes more remote. Playing behind closed doors is looking like a non-starter, and merging the remains of this season into next season could get very messy. Also, with Euro 2021 scheduled for next summer there is little room available for extending next season. There have also been other "outside the box" ideas floated
( e.g. playing the rest of the season in China !!?) most of which look highly improbable.

Yes, teams who were in play-off positions would not be happy, but somewhere along the line something will have to give.

Across the world businesses are facing huge challenges and many won't exist by the time the crisis abates, with many people losing their livelihood.

With this in mind the introverted world of football, and footballers, needs to get real and understand that clubs and players need to take on their share of the suffering and inconveniences (to say nothing of the tragedies) that ordinary folk are enduring. The world of football, already viewed by many as an arena of excesses, will paint a very poor picture of itself if it whines its way through this challenge.

I'd imagine this season is going to be cancelled.

The Euro's have provisionally been rearranged for June 2021. Which means there's not much scope to adjust next season.

Reschedualling could be an opportunity to plan the season around a Winter 2022 World Cup.

I can’t see the season being completed any time soon. My own personal choice would be to complete this season at the beginning of August, then a short break and start next season, scraping both domestic cup competitions. But whatever decision is reached someone is going to be pi55ed off.

OK thinking out the box here.

What about this season is put on "hold" nobody is crowned champion and no one is relegated.

Next season starts as normal, but all the unplayed games from this season count double, i.e. count towards the current season, and to next season at the same time.

Could mean more relegations at the end of 2021, but that could be offset by more promotions.

I'm increasingly of the opinion I expessed a couple of posts up the page that this season needs to be put to bed now by whatever method.

It's all very well saying that we resume the current season come July or August but, as things stand, there is a strong possibility football, and other sports, will not be able to start again that soon. Until a vaccine is available this virus is not going to go away, and restrictions on non-essential gatherings will continue to be in place.

You'd then potentially have the situation where you are into September or October with 9/10 games of the 19/20 season to complete, and a new season already 2 months behind schedule.

I think they should finish the season now and basically place every team by averaging the points accumulated from their last three results.
