I would love it if the season were cancelled and Liverpool not crowned champions. Just love it. Never forgiven them for stealing our European place all those years ago.

Pardew positive karma. Wonder if he will get his bonus.

Well the Dutch have started something, or rather stopped something.

"The Eredivisie - the top tier of football in the Netherlands - has been abandoned for the season with no title winner and no teams relegated.

The move comes after the national government banned major events until 1 September because of coronavirus.

Dutch football's governing body the KNVB said "it has become impossible to play out the 2019-20 season".

Ajax led the table from AZ Alkmaar on goal difference with nine games left but will not be named champions." (BBC website 24-4-2020)

I guess this idea of starting back in June with Government support will work providing everyone follows the set requirements or be a PR disaster for the Premier league (another one) .

Is it too rushed or just part of the plan to relax the lockdown generally and get back to some sort of normality?

Looks like they are getting pressure from UEFA and the TV guys to complete the season ASAP.

8 minutes a half, five-a-side, over in a weekend. Bob's your uncle.

France bans sport until August. PSG will be handed the title.

Uefa asks European Leagues for decision on domestic seasons by 25 May

[Link]

Uefa urged clubs to "explore all possible options" to finish their seasons.

It accepted that in "special cases" some could be cancelled, but asked authorities to use "a different format" if needed in order for teams to qualify for European competitions.

If league seasons cannot be finished, it said national associations would need to select clubs to qualify for Europe.

Uefa said it could "refuse or evaluate" selected teams if necessary.

Seems like the Dutch and French leagues have had their hands forced by the Government banning events beyond the end of June.

If the lockdown ends on 15th May there will be 6 and a half weeks to play approximately 10 games, likely behind closed doors. That would mean playing games around every 4 days.

If some kind of restrictions are going to go on into next season, they could suspend the FA Cup and European games until next year, letting the teams remaining in the competition fight it out to decide who all the winner are.

Average points seems to be the fairest way to settle the leagues.

Sounds a bit like the 'Mercantile Credit' at Wembley many moons ago. Except that was eleven-a-side!!

Sorry, but THAT aint gonna happen(imho)

So far we've had the Dutch, French & very soon the Belgium leagues being cancelled, due to respective Govt implementations. The Spanish, Portuguese, Italian leagues are about to follow suit, due to their Govt's.

We've not heard anything from the Scandinavians, Germany, Russia, Greece & Turkey, & the Balkan states.

The way i look at it is like this:- National Leagues get sued by UEFA for not fulfilling their league contracts, UEFA, get sued by TV companies for the same. SKY/BT/BeIN etc etc get sued by their subscribers for not providing the service they've paid for.

All in all, a messy end to this current season, with NO winners & i dont mean Clubs. How Next season, assuming it starts, pans out, is anybodys guess.

IMO, cancel everything(if only to deny Looserpool) Start afresh next season, whenever that may be.

Agree that it's looking likely. Just trying to work out the latest possible date when the next game can be played.

If they need two weeks training before the game I'd say the absolute latest they have to make a decision is the end of this week.

In terms of organisations suing each other, it's going to be interesting. It's going to be very difficult to sue for not completing seasons based on Govenment interventions. There's going to be a lot of discharge of contractual duties through frustration. Sponsors and TV companies are unlikely to be able to come after associations for damages.

Partial completion of contracts is another issue. Should the FA and UEFA pay part of the prize money to the clubs when the season isnt completed.

A double edged sword here, UEFA 'need' the revenue, but, will save shed loads by not paying out to comp' winners etc

I personally believe that a lot more Govts will decide how sporting events are decided. NOW, how much pressure is put on them by sporting bodies & more importantly, TV influences them, remains to seen.
