It reminds me of the launch of breakfast TV with all the big names, that failed and had to be rescued by a sock puppet. For the same reason if the BBC came out as a left of centre broadcaster I don't think it would survive. People want to be entertained not lectured too by right or left. Anyway 1mm people have still not paid their licence for whatever reason it leaves the BBC with a £160m hole.

The Express! Wonderful. Is there any mention in this article that the controversial license change for the elderly actually came from a Tory Government? Always perplexed to see elderly protestors outside the BBC over this and not the local Conservative HQ. Also, was the change wrong? Income for the retired exceeded the waged some time ago and the gap widens. This policy sought to ensure that only the elderly in relative poverty were exempt rather than the well healed who could afford it; and whose votes keep the Tories in power. On that last point, I am still trying to work out why the Tories brought this policy through in a way that put the BBC in the firing line. Err..?

The BBC agreed to take the cost of funding the over 75's in return for a guaranteed increase in the licence fee and closing the on demand loophole. Having agreed the deal with the government they tried to welch on it and then decided that their solution was to abolish the free licence.

I would like an unbiased news channel with the emphasis on News. Listen to how many reports we get with word like could,possibly,might etc... And opinions, I don,t want pestons,kuenessberg or any other overpaid hacks opinion I want the plain facts so that I can form my own opinions.

Err not quite. The government used to directly fund the license fee gap for the over 75s but then phased that out ending April last year. This left a whopping funding chasm to fill. Where is this quid pro quo on fee rise? I note you have side stepped the small point that most over 75s can afford the fee as well as the younger waged and probably watch about the same. So what unfairness is being created by this? Why is it wrong?
