You Tube is the future and it is free. Loads of documentaries, old black and white films (which I love) and the occasional HD modern movie.

All the albums you could care for to download for free too.

I think the future is already here the viewer becomes the broadcaster deciding when and what to watch.

I remember growing up having to watch stuff I didn't like because something good followed it, no more.

Today I don't watch live TV I record programmes of interest or I just stream. Most youngster don't even bother to record they just stream to their mobile devices.

Which magazine has stopped reviewing TV's under 35 inches, people either have a big TV 40-70 inch or they use a mobile device, there is no market for portable TV's.

Well, WE is also argumentative.....In fact I'd say that is his main interest.

Anyone regularly reading his posts knows he is no saint, indeed I'd call him a deliberate troll who looks for reactions. Then when receiving them he cries victim whenever he is criticised. Apparently he can post at others who ask him to stop, yet he should be treated with the upmost respect.

As this post is, once again, making personal comments about me perhaps I can respond.

The issue is not about being argumentative. Many here are that, and express strong views forcibly. That's the essence of debate.

The issue is about the subject of those views. It's a fundamental principle of internet posting that you address the post and not the poster. This principle is enshrined in the rules of this site but, just like Johnson in No 10, some think that the rules don't apply to them.

I have no issue at all with criticism of my opinions. I do with personal criticism of my character and motivation.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Agree with all of this.

I know people think I am an anti BBC nutjob but the same applies for me with ITV and C4 I simply am not interested in their terrible programs but at least I don't have to pay for them.

To be fair BBC4 has some interesting content, to me anyway, but even then there is a limit to how many David Bowie documentaries I can take.

Apart from all the boaters and caravan/motorhome owners as well as mobile homes.
Just spent the last few months trying to find a decent 28 inch smart tv with enough input for devices...there was only one choice in the end. There is a market for small tv's albeit not as popular as the large screen brigade.

You have done the same of others and indeed of this site.

I regard you presenting yourself as some kind of wronged poster as just yet another example of disingenuous posting.

Here we have yet another post which addresses the poster and not the post.

Whilst, being human, I might have occasionally strayed in the past I make an effort to stay within the rules and don't just ignore them, as some do. I have never criticised the site.

I keep how I regard other posters to myself. I will criticise their comments and their politics, but not their character.

It's not me which is being wronged. It is the site. Its charitable and tolerant attitude is being abused.

This tolerant Moderator is getting fed up with people ignoring her tolerant, gentle warnings.......

Anyone (and everyone) else who discusses another poster rather than the BBC - the supposed subject of this thread - will be getting a yellow card.........

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

BBC better behave circumspectly because Boris covets British broadcasters currently being boshy communists.

If our politics remain as they are then I fear you will be right. The downward spiral into populism doesn't appear to have reached the bottom yet. I think we will all have to suffer quite a lot more before the need for a revival of standards is capable of being sold as the way forward.

Then we need an inspirational, charismatic and transparently honest leader to emerge who can command the trust and respect of all, even those who disagree with them politically.

Much as I disliked much of her politics I respected Thatcher as a genuine leader who knew where she wanted to go, how to get there and possessed the determination not to be diverted. She knew emasculating the Unions was essential, so she did it. She knew we needed the EU but only on our terms, so she got them.

We need another real leader who wants to serve. Not any more opportunists seeking office for the glory.

I agree with this. Thatcher was probably our last leader. We have endured pitiful weakness ever since. The trouble is that I look at Parliament, across all parties, and simply cannot see a real leader amongst them. They all seem to be a load of self serving trough noshers. I had high hopes for John Smith and was very sad when he passed. I think he had the makings of a really decent leader and instead we were hoodwinked by the handwringing Blair and that, in my opinion, is where it all started to go horribly wrong. (I guess if your leader is an ex-barrister then bending truth, twisting arguments and spin is what we should have expected).

However, in this case, I really don’t see why I should be made to finance the BBC but then, if I don’t, I should not be permitted to watch its service or listen to its radio. The TV licence number should be my login. No number, no service. If you want to watch “ad hoc” then you pay for the show. They just need to modernise.
