Somewhere in BBC television land is the excellent mockumentary W1A with Hugh Boneville as the lead. There is an excellent episode where there is one too many Heads of in the diversity arena and one has to go. One of my favourite programmes; enjoy!

In 1955 four of the ITV companies decided to sub contract their news output to a single service (ITN) for cost and efficiency savings. Today ITN provides news not just for all the ITV channels but C4 and C5. Meanwhile at the BBC it has taken until last year for Auntie to realise that the BBC has massive overlap in this area with many channels and radio stations having their own staff duplicating the work of each other. At press conferences you have multiple BBC units all doing their own thing. In addition BBC News 24 is a separate channel that costs at least £100m pa and nobody watches (viewing figures often below minimum threshold) it. So the reorg is a start there is plenty more overlap in other areas but until now these channels / stations have been run as private kingdoms the management of these are going to have to get use to the idea that they should be co-operating not competing with each other. I have no comment on this lady as I don't watch the news I have never heard of her.

I'm trying to avoid making it about one person because in the entertainment world there will always be people who are in or out of favour / lucky break / treated unfairly, twas ever thus. I am more concerned about the structure of an organisation constantly complaining it needs more money yet is top heavy with overlapping management and staff duplicating work. Sports reporting is an other overlap e.g. BBC London reporting on a London game which is also being reported separately by 5Live, can't they just take the feed? Local radio is another area that should go. Just how local is local radio? People who listen to it talk fondly about the station when they actually mean they like the presenter who plays pop records and chats (hardly local). To me local radio should be "we are live today from the local farmers market talking to local people about how Brexit and COVID is impacting farmers." Edited by Badger11 (28 Jan 2023 10.07am)

It was setup to rival CNN (worldwide not just UK) but as has been a financial black hole with rating so low they don't register. Unlike commercial TV the BBC will not admit it's an unnecessary luxury and close it down.

Really bewilders me, but it shouldn't. How selection of the Chairman of the BBC (a really big UK and international news media corporation), is actually a political appointment. Ironically, from the BBC website,... Mr Sharp's appointment (by Boris Johnson) is under review following claims he helped Mr Johnson secure a loan before getting his job."
