Bonetti was indeed employed as a postman.
I have not heard that he was known as "Pop it in Pete" !

The Chelsea team from that era had a raft of H players: Harris, Houston, Hinton, Hollins, Hudson, Houseman, Hutchinson all come to mind.

I remember when the green Peter Bonetti goalkeeping gloves seemed to be the only ones you could buy in the shops , only ever good for use in wet weather.

Very good goalkeeper Peter Bonetti , but as a Palace fan always rated John Jackson higher , as the first keeper I ever saw play live , he still is an idol.

I cut out an article by Jimmy Hill from the newspaper to stick in my Palace scrapbook , he was arguing the case that Jackson should go to Mexico.

I remember Gordon West being the third choice keeper in the end , well he was in my Esso World cup coin collection.
(Just checked Gordon West was picked for 1970 but refused to go )

RIP PB an Icon in the Goalkeeping World.

Those gloves were quite popular for anyone whose turn in was in goal as they took some of the sting out of shots. The extra grip aspect was incidental.
As an aside does anyone remember the boots that had swivel studs on a sort of turntable? Never saw anyone wear them but they looked a bit awkward.
