TFL reintroducing the charge.

Now gone up to £15 and from 7am to 10pm, 7 days a week!

They are also closing the residents discount to new applications and removing Auto Pay discount.

Absolute robbing b@stards!

I really dont know how they are allowed to get away with this sh@t.

Once again, the original idea (to reduce congestion) gets forgotten about and it becomes about fleecing the public. Absolutely disgraceful. There is no bloody congestion at 10pm!

Yup let's get everyone back to work by restricting public transport and making it impractical to use your car.

They should think about limiting delivery times to shops as well. One delivery van in Holborn can back traffic up very quickly when busses can’t get past it.

Which is why they had to put up the congestion charge, the Government has held them to ransom and told them they have to put up the congestion charge, ULEZ charge, fares and also start charging kids for bus use, yet they were happy for them to give free journeys and cut tube travel when it mattered, did they not think that TfL would run out of money very quickly doing that, but then they do want their tory mayor elected at the next election !

Yesterday I had no choice but to agree a funding package with the Government to allow TfL to continue to run public transport safely in London for the next four and a half months. This was necessary because Covid-19 has had a catastrophic impact on TfL’s finances – as it has on every transport provider in the UK.
I want to be completely honest and upfront – this is not the deal I wanted for London. But it was the only deal the Tories would agree to and I had no choice but to accept it to keep the tubes and buses running at this crucial time.
The Tories are shamefully making ordinary Londoners pay the cost for doing the right thing on Covid-19. They insisted that TfL fares must go up next January – ending the four-year fares freeze we worked so hard to deliver since the last election. And they insisted that free travel is temporarily suspended for Freedom Pass and 60-plus cardholders at peak times and all the time for those under 18.
The Tories also insisted that, unlike the deals done elsewhere in the country, TfL takes on £505 million of additional debt. This will undo the hard work we’ve put in to fix TfL’s finances over the last 4 years and poses a real threat to the future of the organisation.
In the last few years, London has been the only major city in Western Europe that hasn’t received direct Government funding to run day-to-day transport services since it was cut by the last Tory Government. This means we rely almost totally on passenger fares to pay for the services we run. Fares income has fallen by 90 per cent in the last two months because Londoners have done the right thing and stayed at home – so there simply isn’t enough money coming in to pay for our services.
The fact is, you can’t run the public transport system a global city like London needs and deserves without financial support from the public purse. If central government isn’t prepared to do the right thing and provide support then they need to give London the powers to secure funding through devolution of control over taxes, just as is the norm in most other major cities.
We are currently running as many services as humanly possible given the number of our incredibly brave staff who are off sick, shielding or self-isolating. As staff are returning to work we are increasing services as fast as safely possible. From Monday we aim to run around 85 per cent of buses, 75 per cent of tubes, restore the circle line and re-open some of the 37 closed stations.
Labour in City Hall will do all that we can to enable London’s recovery and create a fairer and greener city. We will run as many trains and buses as possible while keeping passengers and staff safe. But we need Londoners’ help. We must not use public transport unless absolutely necessary. People who can work from home must do so. Everyone should walk and cycle more. Today I've announced plans to make parts of central London the biggest car-free zone of any city in the world, as well as create 5,000 square metres of extra space on footpaths across London in addition to new cycle lanes. If people must use public transport, they should wear a non-medical face covering throughout their journeys.
I promise to continue being as upfront and clear as possible with Londoners about the challenges facing our city. This is not the deal I wanted, but together we can overcome the challenges we face.
Stay safe,

Sadiq Khan

Mayor khant tried to hold the government to ransom publicly. Diplomatic meetings might have given a different result. TFL made their own autonomous decisions on fares freezes, tube and bus employees rises, kids free transport etc. He employs 500 odd on 100k plus and 50 on 150k plus. Really! Along with his very own media department. Waste has created part of this. Households have to budget. Why not him with his 10 billion a year budget.

The congestion charge for people driving into central London will be reintroduced on Monday under the terms of a £1.6bn government bailout.

It follows a deal in which Transport for London (TfL) secured emergency funding to keep Tube and bus services going until September.

From 22 June, the congestion charge will also rise from £11.50 to £15.

Downing Street defended the changes saying it "only applied to a small area of central London".

Please change 'TFL are robbing b@stards' to 'The Government are kindly people who only want what is best for us all.'

This is Khan's fault pure and simple. He has spent money he didn't have refused to put up fares or make any form of cutbacks and now has the cheek to blame the government. When you have to go cap in hand to a lender and your credit has already been downgraded don't be surprised if they give you terms you don't like.

Cap in hand to a lender? So it's OK that the Government bails out everyone else, just not TFL. You may not have noticed the furlough scheme

It really isn't but to hold Khan responsible you'd need to be politically motivated or innumerate or both.

Khan is getting blamed for something the government ordered him to do.

There was a new financial deal for TfL reached in 2015 by the then chancellor and the then lord mayor of London. Messrs Osborne and Johnston.
