According to an 'Autocar' lady speaking on the telly, demand for cars is far outstripping supply and will continue to do so, therefore good deals are likely to be few and far between - in both the new and used markets. Just saying what I heard; I've no expertise of my own.

For what it's worth, I bought the cheapest new car I could find - Dacia Sandero - and it's a little money well spent IMO.

Probably right about deals .Seem to have gone the opposite to what I imagined. No 0% deals and seem busy.So will probably hang fire !!

Kia Ceed or Skoda Octavia are good value and reliable.

Korean or east European cars are the best deals .

Basically a Volkswagen or toyota in all but name.

After the first 5 years a car has done most of its depreciation. Buy it aged 5 and keep for ten years. You can expect green lefties to put more tax on big engines over coming years. So avoid a guzzler. I agree with dacia/skoda/kia as a good purchase.

Either buy expensive from a dealership ( with good warranty) or cheap from an original owner. Owner must have paperwork evidence it's been his own car for a few years.

Never buy from online 'crow men'.... traders without credentials, without a forecourt, without a real home address. Utter utter crooks.

Avoid French cars except if u are a masochist.
