The Antifa BLM thing is covered off in the news politics thread however we have the small matter of a World Cup starting shortly. It is proven that much of the building development for that World Cup was carried out by slave labour many of whom were black Africans. Given that the PL and the players in particular want to show their support for BLM to the extent that they will wear it on their shirts should they not boycott the World Cup in protest over slavery?

I think Wilf and PVA have both been very vocal in support of BLM, surely this is just as big and if they do go are they not showing their support for slavery?

Personally I think all should boycott the tournament but I’m interested to hear other views.

Just out of interest, was it literally slave labour, or was the term being used in the way that one might describe a lousy low paid job as "slave labour"?

I’m in agreement. I don’t like hypocrisy or a view only when it suits.

I can’t find it at the moment but someone posted an excellent piece on the BLM Antifa thread explaining how it works. It basically involves conning labour into going out there and then withhold money for food and accommodation such that they get caught in a poverty trap and cannot get out. They also have their passports taken off them. It is modern slave labour.

England have been refusing to turn up in World Cup games for years, do you mean to tell me that this was all just part of a political protest?

No no no. You don't get it.

Virtue Signalling and empty gestures: good.
Pulling down statues: good.

Adressing modern-day issues of slavery, particularly when white people are not involved: not so good.

This is the case. So many pakistanis go to the Middle East for employment, the working conditions are s***, pay is s*** and they, indeed do have their passports taken from them. Just like Domestic Workers of Arab families, do we have demos about these? I tried to assist a pakistani Locally engaged employee whose husband died working in the Middle East due to horrendous conditions, no chance of any help.
Having said that, our farmers aren't innocent, the T&Cs for Agricultural Workers are bordering on slave labour

Some are actual slaves I've read. I know wages and conditions for some are bad at least many go home.

100%. Corrupt from start to finish.

Although Blatter clearly had nothing to do with it
