afcon 2021

As with every year this tournament is on, I have deep concerns for how this will impact our season.

The current players that we will lose are Zaha, Ayew and Kouyate. There might be someone I’ve missed so apologies if that’s the case. These three are key in the way we perform and I just don’t see any decent enough alternatives in our current squad to replace them, except may McCarthy for Kouyate. We all know how vital Agee’s goals have been for us.

Am I over thinking this or is this something the board really need to consider when recruiting?

I was wondering about the next AFCON recently and it does have me a little concerned as we'll be missing at least 4 key players (add on Schlupp to Wilf, Kouyate and Ayew)

I'm guessing our summer recruitment will have to take stock of these potential losses and ensure we're not too caught out (however I am assuming Wilf stays in this scenario)

As an asides it does impact a lot of other teams and I'll be interested to see how Liverpool cope, principally without Mane and Salah as their cover up front is patchy.

Was kind of hoping this tournament switches to a 4 yearly event to be honest!!

As I understand it AFCON 2021 is going to be postponed until 2022. Where it could move to the summer to make room for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
