I think Roy is looking more jaded recently - there is a reason why there are not many in the game at his age. The fact he is still going shows his love for the game. His fatigue though might be rubbing off on the players. He has been a very safe pair of hands, but I would personally like to see a fresh start for the new season. Someone who can come in and inject a bit more creativity, because the team lacks ideas at the moment. Only Norwich have scored fewer goals this season.

Getting a new manager doesn’t get away from the fact that we literally need a whole new squad. There are drastic changes needed for us to carry on in this division.

There was a reason that Hodgson in his early 70s was offered a year's contract. I really cannot envisage the club, in effect, sacking Hodgson after he has met his objectives and ensured survival in successive seasons.

I agree with this but I also believe that if we lose our next 5 games in the same manner as the last 3 then major questions will have to be asked but I still don’t think they will sack him, purely because of the state of our squad.

I'm well aware of the reason why the contract was only for 12 months. However in similar vein to the ageing squad, having a manager on those terms doesn't promote long or even medium term thinking. You will know that I have been and still am a fan of Roys, but I think Parish is in danger of painting himself into a corner with all this short termism. I take your point about effectively sacking Roy, but it could be all about seizing the opportunity to secure a long term replacement if the right candidate became available.

That's why I said that having a manager on a short term deal hinders that process. If I was handing a manager the responsibility of rebuilding a squad I would want him on a longer deal than a year.

I think one of the big reasons I don’t get as angry as a lot of fans this season is because I resigned myself to the fact early in the year that I would just be happy to stay in the league, given the current state of our squad. We may all get a shock and the club may actually have a plan for the medium to long term. This season is all but done and hopefully we have an interesting transfer window.
