Some are convinced Hodgson can do no wrong so I'm giving up trying and starting a campaign for him to become England manager again.

I'm not sure it's that, I think it's basically that relegation has seemed unlikely, whilst our squad is poor. So Roy must be doing something right.
However, if we don't get category 1 academy status and we don't get ground improvements, plus we don't win even a cup (or even try to), what will be the point in this Premier League spell? I'm suspecting we will be looking nostagically at this period when we are in the Championship in a few years time.

'O the good old days' we will be saying as we struggle to retain our position in the Championship.

our ageing squad is a real concern and shows a number of issues - lack of transfer strategy, poor contract negotiation and a lack of academy players coming through.

Transfer strategy. Why buy a 28 year old defensive mifdielfer, McCarthy, last summer when we already had 4 or so defensive mids in the squad?
Cahill was less of issue as we had injuries in that position and he was a free.
Event he Sakho purchase a few years ago was a strange one. SP bought him when we didn't have a manager - he was already 27/28 on big wages and we know he was injury prone and likely to make bizarre errors. He hasn't disproved either of those traits.

Contracts - why give a 5 year contract to a 29 year old? Surely 3 or 4 years tops. We did this for both Punch and Dann. A new contract for Tomkins when he still has 2 years to go? 4 years for Luka at 28, same for Jimmy that has subsequently be extended.
I have no issue in playing older players but would like them on shorter contracts. I notice we still have Ryan Inniss on our books - he's 25 now and has never made a league appearance. Surely he should have gone years ago

Academy - very few are getting through, it's as simple as that. Maybe that's why Richard Shaw left. Hopefully Mitchell can make an impact, which would be great.

Hopefully next year we will have Ferguson on the right, Mitchell on the left and maybe Gallagher from Chelsea on loan, plus a young striker for the bench

There are a few clubs who have stayed in the Prem for a while and thought they had cracked it. Fulham, Wigan and Clowns come to mind. A club like ours will never be classed as a permanet Prem club, we just aren't the type

We suffer from being a London club:

1. Arsenal / Spurs / Chelsea
2. West Ham
3. Palace / Watford

We are probaly the 5th biggest club in London. If any of the above are interested in a player chances are they will get him first as bar Watford they are bigger clubs.

It's always going to be difficult unless we get lucky with our scouting or an owner who has deep pockets.
