Team selection reflects the game approach of the elderly manager. Can anyone imagine RH being in charge of the youth team? lol

Interestingly we’re strongly linked with a young Chelsea midfielder, Conor Gallagher.
I’ve seen him play and he’s a box to box player with a good passing range and a decent shot.
Just the sort of player we should be seeking.
However, does anybody seriously think Hodgson would start him ahead of Luka, Mcarthy or Kouyate?
Hodgson is the wrong guy for us to attempt to rebuild an elderly squad.

A busy energetic, hard-working, tenacious box-to-box player who doesn't shirk a challenge. He has collected 10 'Yellows' this season.

I was in conversation about this player with someone last night and he was fulsome of praise for the young chap.

Personal opinion , you have seen some Italian older squads do amazing stuff in the champions league. Andreas Perlo for example.

But there is an argument for a need of pace & stamina.

Overall our squad have done brilliantly this season , but in the premier league you are going backwards if you are not trying to make progress.

Into which positions would you like to see youth recruited ?

Pirlo was so good his age never mattered.

During his time at Fulham he had several players in their 30s, but not all signed by him.

Some examples : Smertin, McBride, Nevland,Stefanovic, Murphy,Litmanen,Duff,Gera, Kallio,Dacourt.

He did however sign a teenager from Maidstone Utd, Chris Smalling! And he did sign Andy Johnson who was in his 20s!

There’s nothing wrong with having core of experienced players as a strong foundation to a team.
Indeed they’ve been a key component in our staying in the division for so long.
At some point though it is necessary to blood youngsters with a view to replacing or supplementing the experienced players.
I just don’t see Hodgson doing this.
Even if an experienced player is woefully out of form he will continue to play him and not give others an opportunity.
On the rare occasions he has used them he has tried to shoehorn them into a system which doesn’t suit them (e.g Meyer on right or left of a nominal front three).
His rigidity and safety first approach does not augur well for the involvement of young or inexperienced players.

None of us know what is going on behind the scenes but I honestly believe that Roy has just been asked to keep us in the division and keep thing’s steady while Parrish and co try to sort out the mess in the background.

This is not going to be the core of our squad in 2 years because most of them will be either retired Or too old and Roy will be gone also.

The transfer’s we make this summer are going to decide where our club ends up. If the club mess this up, then we will be relegated.

Its not as if the team is old individually but yes it is old collectively . They all have at least another two /three years in the tank yet so my thoughts are don't panic yet .

A gradual replacement programme should be in place with a young non goalscoring centre forward ,wingers who cant cross a ball and some good defensive midfielders the priority

And we still need a striker

Not sure I’d trust Hodgson to choose a new striker.
He was desperate for us to get Solanke after all.
He was also keen to offload Sorloth who has scored around as many goals this season as our entire team put together (yes, I know in a weaker league).

On loan.

We pulled out when Liverpool wanted a permanent deal and Eddie Howe went and spunked £19m on him.

Sorloth ? I would contend that the decision was made based upon training as well as match performances. It was also Hodgson's buy so although it didn't work out at that time with Palace, the guy clearly has something which Hodgson spotted.

We did however spend £2m on Jordan Ayew - that turned out ok from where I'm sitting.

Some are convinced Hodgson can do no wrong so I'm giving up trying and starting a campaign for him to become England manager again.
