Because he'll get to play with us - this is where Eze featuring so heavily helps us. Good precedent set. Benrahma barely got on the pitch the last season by contrast.

I'll translate the latest Gallagher stories: 'doesn't want to leave Chelsea' translates to 'doesn't want to come here'. He'll have offers, West Ham and Leeds. So why Selhurst? I can see him at West Ham.

I see that he holding talks with Newcastle, nothing definite yet though.

I wonder if we really p**sed him off last season by going for Batsuayi at the last min instead.

Which raises the question, who made that decision to go for Batsuayi instead of Gallagher. He was hardly one of Roy's favourites and he could not get game time at all.

Well that's not saying much. Batshuayi and Mateta were both hardly used, but both proved they should have been picked more often.

Did they?
Batshuayi had the first chance up front last season and failed to take it because he couldn't keep onside when it mattered and thus gave way to Benteke who promptly scored a brace at the Hawthorns and a goal at West Ham.

Mateta was woeful against Leeds in his first full start but then scored that neat back heel against Brighton, but did little else and failed to impress in the few substitute appearances he had. When Benteke came on he also did the business and subsequently performed well in the remaining games with a solid goal return.

Consequently, I would like to know what Batshuayi and Mateta did to PROVE that they deserved more starting chances

Great post. Benteke has to be our main man up front next year. Feed the beast!

He will be gone before the season starts

Did you even watch the Walsall game, can uou believe Benteke will fit into Viera's style of play.

The Toon can have him and we’ll get Maitland-Niles instead!

Tell me who was good against Leeds away! A dreadful performance but everyone. Singling Mateta out and basing him on that game isn't fair.
