I think his spells at Charlton, Huddersfield and Southend where he was No.1 were in total longer than his time as No.2 at Derby and Den Haag.

PL managerial appointments are a strange thing.

He's probably had enough of being someone else's no.2.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

His spell at Charlton was for 3 years and got them up in his first full season as manager but had issues with the new owners who wanted him to play their new signings according to Wikipedia. That spell is probably longer than his other roles as manager, or No.2.

He seems pretty settled as England no.2. It's easier to manage the national team than a premier league team. Nobody was interested in Southgate

Huddersfield a poisioned chalice it now appears. Cowley did well for Lincoln but a year isn't long to do much

He started his career at Palace, we let him go and he became an England international and England assistant manager. Not a bad CV. You don't know how good a manager he is or isn't.

Southgate was deemed a failure at Boro, wasn't justified either.

southgate is not good enough at club level.
modern day hodgson a boring yes man.
look how well coleman did with wales, still s*** at club level.
but some people think southgates number 2 is good enough for a premier league side.

Southgate gives off a bit of an aura that he is a bit if a nothing at club level. Boro fans fell for this and belived they could do better. They massively regret underestimating him now, they would have him back in a heartbeat! Trust me on this one. I live in Boro!
