The £20 million cost obviously includes wages and add ons.
Burke has been on loan but has struggled again and the article suggests WBA may have to write off much of the cost, just as we are likely to with Meyer.
The central point is the uncertainty of transfers which can make or break a club.
Our promotion team including the likes of Delaney, Ward, Bolassie, Jedi and Murray proved to be terrific value.
Our expensive purchases of Sakho and Benteke have not proved to be good value even though you think you’re buying guaranteed quality.
I believe Meyer has another year on his contract and would be available on a free at the end of that period if he’s not moved on in the summer.
It’s very unlikely he’ll be anything other than a bench warmer under Hodgson.

Brentford have done some smashing business in the transfer market.

Talking of Meyer’s cost to Palace being in the region of £20 million I have just read an article on Oliver Burke who has cost WBA a similar sum, albeit with a transfer fee included.
We were very closely linked with Burke as Freedman knew him from his Forest days and Burke was a very highly rated youngster.
A number of years on his career does not appear to be going anywhere.
Just goes to show that transfers can be something of a lottery although clubs like Brentford seem to have more hits than misses.

Didn't Brentford's chairman used to work forfor & is close friends with Brighton's chairman? May explain the use of stats to identify players.

The "Moneyball" theory. As used in baseball. In the absence of decent scouts this is probably as good a way as any to identify talent. There is certainly enough data around.

Even scouts use database tools now this is how it is done in modern football.

You pay large sums for access to all info on players it's provided by scouts it has videos and all other medical etc info including the sports science stuff.
