Top post, depends entirely on what you want, turgid football again coupled with relegation and no chance of bouncing back, or a fresh approach, relegation and a chance to bounce back. We haven't the finances to buy a new squad, we're lumbered with highly paid journeymen and have a manager who's incapable of making decisions that can affect a result. Remember the Euros when Kane took all the corners, our greatest threat was never in the middle. Hodgson is 10 years past his sell buy date, 7 straight losses and you still think he's up for it. We've bought a kid from West Brom, he'll go straight to the development squad and be forgotten.

Top league football that's what we want and that's what we have ..stop moaning about the most experienced manager we've ever had, very very very few goals come from silly stupid corners, teams are at far more risk of having goals scored against them during one then scoring one themselves.

During that England game it was reported and witnessed that the squad let the manager down, nothing to do with anything Mr Hodgson did at all.

Thing that concerns me most about Howe is his defensive record. He had seasons to put it right and didn’t manage it.

The last 2 mangers we had who didn’t give a toss about defending were Holloway and Pardew, and both didn’t end too well.

Exactly.

The biggest red herring in football history is that England failed because Harry Kane took corners.

Credit is given to Roy for keeping us up. No problem with that. Yet no credit at all for what Eddie Howe has achieved at Bournemouth.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

Quite right. In fact it was a brilliant plan. Just didn't quite work out, due to bad luck.

True but we're still in the EPL.
At the end of the day, if you get your defence right you will have a better chance of staying up or achieving. Look at
1. the difference Virgil makes to the Scousers
2. the loss of Kompany without a decent replacement to the results of Citeh this season
3. Jose's philosophy wherever he goes
4. the early Wenger teams
Potterball nearly got the Weed relegated and Howe's focus on attacking football did get Bournemouth relegated.
Whilst Roy is too defensive IMO, he can still only work with what he's got, which let's face it is not a great deal on the attacking front.

To be fair you are right though. England failed as they didn’t attack with any pace or look like there was any kind of coherence.

All valid points - but in 8 months time Roy will retire (hopefully on a high - with us winning a cup) and we must look to a long term solution. I get the defensive concerns re Howe - I share them. But Howe is still learning and developing as a manager. I’m sure he will improve this - even more so if he has the support of Roy in some other capacity at the club.
I can’t loose sight of the fact that he took Bournemouth- who were a crumby little club in the lower divisions to successive promotions (Playing a brand of football that was widely admired) and kept them in the EPL for 4 seasons Bournemouth FFS! I know he spent lots of money in recent years but he did have some terrible luck with key injuries too!

I know it’s the Palace way - but if we don’t act fast and line him up now, I fear we’ll miss out on this and end up admiring his West Ham team progressing up the league for years to come.

Actually no. If you have a better attack than defense yoi have more chances of staying up. Say you win 3 matches with 4-3 and lose 3 with 3-4. You have 9 points out of 6 matches.

If you win 1 match with 1-0,draw 4 0-0 or 1-1 and lose 1 match with 0-1, you have 7 points from 6 matches.

Multiply that by 38 matches. Yes,Bournemouth got relegated because they were poor defrnsively. But their attack wasn't that great either this year, with Callum Wilson not being the same, Ryan Fraser playing rarely as a starter and youngster Harry Wilson not being able to save them on his own. Also, injuries of David Brooks, Groenveld and many times Stanislas gave them few options.

But usually you get a higher chance of staying up with a good attack than with a good defence. It's mathematics. Of course, defence should not be neglected either. But it's better to play for 3 points even if it's once every 2 games than hold out for 2 draws.

Build from the back always, if Benteke had performed even to half of his ability from his first season with us we would have achieved much higher and with much more joy for the watching fans.

This is never true.
Ask any manager at any level.
The teams winning leagues or staying up are in most occasions the ones with less goals conceded, not with the most goals scored. Look at the just finished Premier, Serie A etc.

Defending is much easier and less tiring than attacking, plus, if you don't concede you have at least a point, but if you concede you need to be certain to score, just to get a point.

And we are the living proof of this...
