It's time to drop the nostalgia and sentiment. If a player wants off then the only thing to do is get the best deal - club takes priority over player.

It will be a big culture shock for Wilf. He will have to get used to being on the bench and being subbed during games, something he's not used to here. Also he will suffer the anger of the fans when he loses the ball, he is not used to that either. Will his dodgy temperament be up to it?

Wilf would never go abroad. A lot of English players have a fear of leaving home and he is one of them. Would love to see him thrive in Barcelona but it jus' ain't gon' happin.
In fact, didn't he have the chance to go to Bayern once before and he said no for that exact reason?

I'm no soothsayer, but I'm almost certain that he will be at some cack mid to Europa leage level team next season, winning faff all.

Even if he would go abroad , he would have to sharpen up his general attitude by about 100%. Very few continental clubs Or their players would put up with his whinging , on or off field.
Wilf, wanted Arsenal. He would have to prove himself there, or any of the London, big three, but at least being close to his roots would help him cope with the expectations that are certain to be demanded of him wherever he ends up.

Agreed,as the apparently many suitors line up for this great talent, time to secure best price and move on.

I think there is a general concensus of opinion.

Wilf has been great for the club he has been one of our own and prior to this season he has been our stand out player. He has often been our only real attacking threat not so much in his finishing but in his ability to keep the ball transitioning defence into attack, providing a much needed outlet for us when we have been under pressure.

When in form for us he has been well worth the asking price we have put on his head at the time.

This season though either through him wanting to move on, our other wing no longer being as strong as it was allowing oppositions to double up more on Wilf, or simply tactics and the way he us being asked to play it is become obvious that like all good things it needs to come to an end for both parties.

It's about us now being brave to let him go and bringing in a new phase of evolution for the club.

Definitely, I couldn’t give a rats arse who he signs for. When he is gone he is gone. If that happens he is no longer a Palace player and I couldn’t care less what happens to him. He is not a family member or a good friend.

Time to cut our losses; he clearly doesn't want to be here anymore and last season was his worst in red and blue. What guts me is that the only way to move him on is to accept a significantly lower bid than we could have got two years ago when we could have used the money to upgrade on some of the no-hopers on our books, e.g. Benteke.

I would genuinely be delighted for Wilf if he gets the chance to sign for Barcelona - it would be a massive change for him but if he is prepared to graft his way into the first team with the talent that he does dispose to make happen then why not? He has been a loyal servant for Palace and now deserves the chance to move on to European Championship heights. Palace' future and success should so much be about more than one player.
