Hi Ian-VI - I'm glad you're confident but I fail to see any reasons you give for your optimism, which I was after.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

There are some on here who simply insult those with a differing opinion. They are probably those who are happy with mediocrity and lack ambition. I can only imagine their school reports said must try harder.

Ambition is something you can achieve yourself, you need to realise anything posted on here is opinion and doesn't change a thing.
If you consider mediocrity, playing in the most popular league in the world, well!

I was watching the film Moneyball last night and thinking about the similarities in the sense of assembling a team that doesn't play the best football, doesn't make the best use of players (necessarily) and which doesn't contain players that get fans excited...but...which is designed to beat the odds and get points. Not that I think Dougie is a mathematics genius, or Roy, but for a club our size there is that battle between budget and ambition. Brighton played much better football than us last season, but finished below us. Sheffield Utd lacked headline signings but did really well, as did Burnley, the latter playing worse football than us!

Personally I would rather we hedged our bets on playing better football than climbing a few places in the table. After all, Billy Bean's team never actually wins the Championship in Moneyball! (sorry for the spoiler)

Hello Eaglehamster,
the reasons are that in my opinion (ready to make amend if I'm wrong) the quality of the players is still high enough to stay up, even if we lost some pace lately. Surely with Schlupp, so having 2 wings and not only one, we are strong enough.
Also, the way we play, much to the despair of some, is the best way to get points from this team in this difficult league, so I am confident about the season ahead.
Are we beautiful to watch? I don't think so, but I think the question was if we're able to stay up, so my reply refer to that.

How true. However, those of us who have supported the Palace for decades know full well that this last decade has been the GOOD times and we hope (but do not necessarily expect or even demand) that the good times continue.

Let's hope for another good summer transfer window like we had last year! We got real value for money from the players that were brought in last summer and that is all, as Palace fans, we can reasonably ask for.

good times are relative, mate. Far more enjoyable seasons were had in the Championship when the standard of football was (relatively) far superior to what we see from the team now. Bolasie, Ambrose, Murray to name a few who were pure joys to watch. I could go back further. We had seasons and parts-of-seasons where we absolutely steamrollered teams, has highly skilled and talented players who got the ground on their feet.

Some people have higher expectations than 'survival', which is no existence at all. We won't be in the Prem forever, nothing is forever, and if we don't really give it a go then that time will be over sooner.

this is it, really...maybe im a bit blunt, but i have no time for idiots who dont understand where our club finances currently are.

we are a small club, we are punching above our weight in the PL...yes, we are always going to be crippled by wages in this situation.

we just have to accept that & take what we can, when we can.

if we dont spend a fortune on fees & be smart we can compete.
