Whilst I don't think Roy is blameless I feel the answers may lie far deeper.

We have had a number of managers since we got back in Premiership and Roy is the only one to have had an extended stay. 2 managers have jumped

We have never had a consistent striker in Premiership yet over the years we have bought and rejected a few. Those that have been reasonable for a period then seem to lose their way.

The question is Why?

I may be wrong and this may be an unpopular view but I think the way we have used Zaha may be the key. He is a winger not a striker and while a player of his flair needs to be given some freedom at times this has been too great and this has effected the team as a whole.

Benteke has two strengths his heading ability and his ability to hold the ball and lay it off to another. He is not getting enough accurate crosses to his head and he is too often isolated with no one to lay off to. Also his confidence is now rock bottom.

I wonder if Allerdyce or Pullis were the manager would we be any different? I think our wingers would be forced into crossing more and this may have led to more goals.

Roy's teams are always built from defence with a strong hard working midfield. Until the last few games of the season this worked at least in terms of points and league position. Then we got injuries and age of squad started to show

The first four games of the new season will be critical: it's not like Parish, Hodgson or anyone else cannot see the warning signs and feign surprise. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Yes, although our opening fixtures will be relevant. Two or three top teams and it may take longer to determine how things are likely to pan out before determining on whether or not to make a change.

Ah, Tim. How nice it is to be surrounded by men of culture.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

It’s not “scapegoating” to be critical of Roy.
He has done well keeping us up and I very much respect him for that - we have played well at times.
I think there are some characteristics in particular that are a consistent source of frustration for me (and others).
Primarily the reluctance to change when things aren’t working. (70th minutes sub followed by another one after 80 minutes after the game is beyond us is a theme). There was no better illustration of this than the last 8 fixtures.
He regularly commented on how tired the players were - yet barely called upon the bench or youth players,
We’ve been crying out for a creative Midfielder to pick a pass or slide a through ball in yet Max /Kirby/other youths players never even got a start?
The whole left footed RW and right footed LW is SO predictable to defend and isn’t remotely effective- yet week after week he continues with it. The same can be said for the formation.

We can all debate this without “scapegoating” Roy they are legitimate observations about what we’ve been watching. Anyone keeping us in the division deserves our gratitude and respect . Roy has mine.

Roy needs some money to get us in shape for next season and he needs it now!

We haven’t got the time to dick about now like we normally do, and we need to make sure we are in a better position than the 3 teams coming up from the Premiership, if we don’t we will be certainties to go down.

A spend of 8 million in 3 seasons is a complete joke...

I think that sums it up. The same would apply to any other manager people dream of. The deference is Roy , would keep us up, just about, even if he gets little or no help with the extra players he deserves, let alone needs. Any lack of ambition ,is the clubs, not Hodgson. It’s up to the club to come up with the goods.

I am extremely grateful that Roy has kept us in the EPL during his time with us (even despite it being so depressing to watch and utterly uninspiring for large parts of the Season just gone).

I don’t however share the philosophy that we are doomed without him and will be relegated if he goes. Take for example Chris Wilder and Nuno Espírito Santo, both of whom had no previous EPL experience and were not huge names in English footballing circles when they took over at their respective clubs.

Both have done incredibly well for their teams and have shown that there is very capable, as yet untried, EPL talent out there.

The fact remains, by the standards of the Premier, Hodgsons , tenure has been consistently under funded.. Wolves ,have spent a fortune, since before getting promotion, and Wilder was well funded last year, and will be with their new owners. The club is treading water, they have done nothing other than a patch up job, and yet the support thinks Hodgson, should make progress regardless. Not only in league position, but in style.
Unless this club gets some money , it will take a super manager to get a regular top ten spot playing exquisite football. The frustration is understandable , no thrills football has that effect. But surely give a man that has coped as well as Hodgson, has , the tools , and why should we finally go backwards?
The option being give anyone the tools and we should go forward, or give the same lack of support to anyone and expect a miracle. No tools it becomes a miracle to perform for whoever wants the thankless job.

Can someone please answer this:

What is the point of buying new players if the existing manager has only one season left ?

Surely any replacement will have different ideas and (hopefully) a less defence minded outlook ?
