The time frame may well be a killer for us. Squad presently needs more time to recuperate due to age. Some injured players will not be ready for Sept 12th. New players will have less time to gel. 5 subs rule will not help us unless squad is strengthened. Stronger squads for bigger teams gain advantage from this ? Not Roy's forte subs in any case, putting more pressure on the squad. All of this could crush early form, particularly if the fixture computer is unkind to us. Also we haven't adapted well to playing under Covid conditions, which will be with us until October, with only some loosening then and certainly not all the fans back for a very long time. Could be a very tough opening.

“ [T]here are known knowns; there are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns; that is to say there are things that, we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns – there are things we do not know we don't know. ”
—United States Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld

This has not formally been agreed for the new season.
It is likely that the usual 3 subs allowed will apply.

IMO we need to shift Wilf asap, can only be a problem if he stays. So obvious he wants out and the squad know it so thanks and goodbye from me.

One of my favourite players in my time supporting Palace and certainly amongst the most exciting to watch.
I've been unhappy with his efforts this season though.
Earlier in the season I largely held Hodgson accountable as I assumed it was the defensive tactics and insistence on keeping shape that was holding Zaha back.
But I'm sure Hodgson doesn't stop him taking on and dribbling past people which he has shown a reluctance to do this season.
I lost count of the times this season when he was one on one with the defender and failed to deliver when we know that's his main strength.
I still think there's a query about his final ball or finishing but used to say the same about Sterling and look at how that's improved under Guardiola.
Personally I hope he goes to a top club and flourishes.
We've been overly reliant on him for too long.

Agreed.

Both he and the club need a new start

Seconded.

Would love to have watched Wilf in his element on a weekly basis but I feel like we've squeezed everything we were ever going to get out of him with only the last few drops coming on the rare occasion this season.

I won't be sad to see him go, just grateful for what he has done.

Was mentioned earlier the sooner we shift him the better, I sincerely hope so but believe this may be drawn out if it happens at all, which would be awkward and potentially disastrous.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I agree that both Wilf and the Club need to move on. The stumbling block will be the asking price. After the season he has just had we will be lucky to get 30 million whereas Parish will want at least double that. We also need to shift some high earners that contribute little - Meyer, Sakho, Benteke. Again I can't see there being many (if any) takers.
In view of this I can see very limited transfer activity and leaving it to the loan market in January as usual.

Love Wilf and always will. I will keep the memories of the good times but I really do hope he goes, I’m getting very frustrated with his performances and I feel for the team to move forward he has to go. I just hope SP doesn’t insist on holding out for some pie in the sky transfer fee, let’s take the best offer, call it a day and all part on good terms.

I just don't know who comes in for Wilf though.

Can't see Everton wanting him anymore.

Newcastle takeover hasn't happened and I have no idea if the Saudi's bid will go through.

Genuine Top 6 clubs won't be interested in him.

Not sure which European club would want him and have the money for transfer and wages.

Also if Pulisic is worth £54m, Werner £48m, Sane £40m and Ziyech £36m, how is Wilf going to be valued at what Parish values him at.

At the going rate, we'd be lucky to get £40m after the season he's had and the perception of his attitude outside of Palace.

I feel sorry for the board having to manage this one to an outcome that works for everyone.

I don't. They blew it last year with their ridiculous valuation of Wilf.

whilst i agree getting more than £40m for Wilf will be difficult after his form and attitude last season and impact of covid but re your valuation comparisons..
Pulisic is still very young and at 21 was still unproven when purchased
Sane - just recovered from a serious knee injury, only had 1 year left of contract and had refused to sign a new one
Werner - think he had a release clause in contract

Arsenal did pay £72m for Pepe last season (albeit over a number of years and Sancho is being touted at over £100m . Sarr at Watford has done quite well but also a gamble at £30m. Suspect they will want much more now

Another relegation scrap.
Hodgson in charge.
We've already made our major signing for the season.
A crappy new kit.
Let's hope for some excitement and at least have a final day stay up result just to piss roy Keane off.

Do you think Zaha was worth more than the highest offer from Arsenal of £45 mil spread over 6-7 transfer windows. It’s this issue that many incorrectly blame Parish and the board, and I’m not exactly in the Parish can do no wrong gang.
