I thought Grant may have been on our radar when he left Charlton...raw but strong, hungry type. A squad addition although not a starter necessarily. He's done well in a struggling Huddersfield team so I would have interest at £7-10m perhaps

Buendia at Norwich is young and can play centrally or wide. Coped well in the Premier and another that played in a struggling team. £15m ?

That potentially leaves Roy with enough change for an ageing defensive midfielder

Not financially powerful to buy those players from Salzburg. Szobolszai and Patson Daka are wanted by the likes of Barcelona.

But their youngster CSABA BUTKA is a free agent this summer. Remember that name!

Szolbolszai is rumoured to be available for about £25m and at this point it's more about what the people who surround him are like. Do they say go to a club like Palace and get first team football or go somewhere bigger but no guarantees. I like that he can genuinely play anywhere across midfield and he strikes me as the kind of player that could develop into one of those Lampard type midfielders that gets you 10 goals a season as a minimum.

Whilst Daka had an incredible season, I actually think Koita is the one to watch. Butka has done well but it was in a complete mickey mouse league. Benteke would score 40 a season in that league.

I do agree that Szobolszai and Daka could be well out of our reach, but Koita I think could be picked up for under £10m. He's the type of player that with some patience and support, he could double his worth every year he spends with us.

So basically it would be Fraser having to replace Zaha, Will Hughes for Townsend as left footed winger, Grant for Benteke, RLC for Meyer and the defender Ferguson for Sakho.

I'm sorry but that doesn't seem like an improved squad. And anything less than improvement equals relegation. No way I'd sell Townsend for 9 million and buy Will Highes for 14, cause Townsend us an accomplished winger and Will Hughes is all-rounder, but not really good anywhere. Sure, he can play centrally too, but so can Townsend, who is faster and less injury prone.

And Fraser, though a good player, I doubt can replace someone like Zaha.

You honestly think that squad isn't an improvement overall on what we have ?

I understand that replacing Zaha with almost anyone is not an improvement, but that's because we won't be able to attract anyone as good so it is about spreading the money across the squad to provide balance.

Townsend for Grant
Zaha for Fraser
Meyer for RLC

Townsend has been woeful for some time now and provides no attacking threat. He plays on the right and cuts inside ? The argument for a left footed winger is currently void. He's 29 and has scored 12 goals and provided 20 assists in 134 games. Not good enough, although I do like him.

Zaha doesn't want to be here and scored 4 goals with 5 assists for the season. 27, not far off 28 and we need to cash in.

Benteke, regardless of how good people think his link up play is, will not be the answer unless he actually begin to cross a ball.

Sakho has been injured for about 2 seasons and is on big wages. Needs to move on. Cahill, Tomkins, Kelly & Dann are enough with Kouyate as emergency cover for a season.

We lack pace, creativity and are carrying too many passenger players on big wages.

As I said it is only fantasy and of course it won't happen, but we need a blend of experience and youth without breaking the bank, which is what I personally went for.

Who would you choose ?

Karlan Grant costs at least 15 million.

[Link]

What do we judge Karlan Grant like?? A 22 and 11 months year old youngster with time to grow? Or an already 23 year old player who has to be a certainty at this age?

Cause his 23 birthday is next month.

Just comparing him at this age with another 23 year old from Europe- Cedric Itten from the Swiss league. I doubt the Swiss league is poorer than the Championship, cause teams like Basel.and Young Boys are doing pretty well in the Champions League, where I dare say that Fulham and Brentford coudln't.

So Karlan has 19 goals and 4 assists in the Championship in 3700 minutes and 4 goals 1 assist in 850 minutes in the Premier League. Granted, we should divide some of his minutes in the Championship cause he played as left winger too. I don't count his League One goals, cause that's a much lower level.

[Link]

Itten has 27 goals and 7 assists in the 18/19 and 19/20 seasons in 3500 minutes and 3 goals 1 assist in the national team in 100 minutes, though against poor opposition.

[Link]

Point is Itten costs around 5 million, not 15, they're both the same age and Cedric Itten looks better imo.

Josh Maja, Andre Gray, Jordan Ibe (free) Gallagher.

Sell Wilf, Benteke, Sakho, Andros, Sorloth (shame he never got a chance) Hennessey ( should get 50k for him) use some of the cash to get Eze, Cash, Stanislaz, Vorm, and depending on price Solanke or Grant.

Play Max in an attacking CM role instead of left mid (should have tried this once safe IMO) and give Jairo a run of games ffs!

Selling players and replacing them with younger and better cannot be the only focus. We were unable to name a squad of 25 senior players for last season without making up the numbers by including 5 goalkeepers (two of whom have now left) and Camarasa, also gone. It is proposed that 5 subs will be allowed next season; given that Roy never plays kids unless forced to do so, and our elderly contingent are habitually injured, we urgently need additional players rather than mere replacements.

We need to spend far more than £30 million.

My wish list;

RLC loan £3m
Batshuayi loan £3m
Tosun buy £12m
Loader (ST free agent England U20) buy £2m comp
Matt Grimes (CM Swansea) £8m

Ok that’s £2m over budget but I think the valuations are achievable and manages to plug the gaps in our squad. I accept it’s not ideal to have players on loan but it seems like a necessary evil.

3 of these players we’ve had in the past, so they are low risk. Loader can take time to settle in behind some quality strikers and Grimes is a wild card passing/tackling CM that Roy would love.

Vive le Roy!

Osayi-Samuel and Eze got a combined £25 million would be a good deal and provide some options when Wilf inevitably leaves.

Would like Will Hughes from Watford as well. We need a bit more energy in the middle and he’s a proven PL player. Still only 25 as well. Think Watford will want at least £8-10million.

Gone over budget but I could name at least a dozen players who we could scrap to balance the books.

No, but Charlie Adam, Higuain and Mitrovic still are.

I'd only loan players if it were possible to buy them at the end. Otherwise, you're just making other clubs a favour. Investing in your own striker let's say 10 million and then selling him for 30-40 million is better than loaning one from Chelsea and him not being yours, next year.having to replace him again.

Nice mention of Tosun, haven't seen one yet. I doubt many people would pay 12 million for a player who hasn't trained or played in so long and might never go back to great fitness.
