I never saw Paul Barron play for Palace but I did see him a number of times for my local team Welling United. The season we came 3rd in top flight they also had their best ever finish of 5th in the Conference with him in goal. It was a very enjoyable season seeing both my sides winning most weeks!
I remember him being quite good but his goal kicks always went to the right side touch line and often out of play.

I never thought he was that bad but played behind some poor teams for Palace and went on to have a decent career in the top flight with West Brom and QPR.

There appears to be a substantial piece in one of the Spanish papers and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he may want to be closer to his family after the last few months.

Would be a real headache if there is any truth as we've all seen that keeping an unhappy player doesn't work.

Seems pretty close to his immediate family to me. They happily go up my road each day.

My son communicates with him via Social Media and he appears settled and his family are very happy here. He often mentions how pleased he is with the way his kids have settled.
I know he wouldn't come out and say "Yes I want off" to a fan but ....

on the flip side if he has elderly parents and both countries are going to be in and out of lockdown, maybe he would prefer to be near them. Time will tell. Apparently my son advises that Clapham Grand has laughed at this (who is CG?)

Hopefully he will come for a cross and stand in the middle of his goal for a 35-yard free kick. Unfortunately not something present in Wayne's skill set.

When I hear the team line-ups on the radio on the way to the game and Wayne has unexpectedly been drafted in, I get a sinking feeling inside. At least when there is a death on the TV they make sure you are sitting down first. Wayne's unexpected selection should follow a similar approach.

Why would a GK stand in the middle of goal for a free kick when there is a wall in place to cover one half of the goal? Or, is there no point in having a wall? This is pretty basic stuff you learn as a kid. It gives the free kick taker less of a target to aim for. Probably worth having a read on the internet or just a general look at all GK’s positioning for free kicks. I’m 100% certain that the Portsmouth chap and all other pros do the exact same thing.

VC has had a poor end to the season, but so have a lot of our players. Still our No1 and I expect another decent season from him. WH is a more than capable as a back up. Our GK position is healthy right now.

It's good to see a post from someone who knows about goalkeeping.

Unfortunately a wall cannot cover the space above it. There is an argument for having no wall at all, on the basis that if you take a 'penalty' from anywhere outside the box / D, then it is not as easy to score as you think against a good keeper. If you watch some Brazilian football from the 70s the wall is often strung out with spaces in between, in some cases 2 half walls covering each of the posts with the GK covering the middle and the ball over the top in both corners.

Unfortunately Wayne is so 'planted' he never gets a pace across before diving.

I can never understand why if there is a wall, stand staggered with 1, 3 and 5 in front of 2 and 4.
2 and 4 can jump and 1,3 and 5 can move their feet across to cover the space. 2 and 4 can use the shoulders of 1,3 and 5 to jump higher.

A ball at 90mph travels at 132 feet per sec. 10 yards is 30 feet, so the wall has approx 0.23 second to react.
Easy....

If there had been no wall at all AA would not have scored that free kick at Anfield. Hennessey made it easy for him by his positioning. I actually looked away because i knew where it was going

Can't we move on from WH and Liverpool?. The fact remains that we got tonked and not a single player turned up for us because the Scousers were simply too good on the night. Every Scouser won their individual battle.

Sorry, but no it isn’t. I was of exactly the same opinion whilst watching it live. You might favour one side of the goal slightly but WH could almost touch his post from where he was stood. He would never have a chance of saving anything that went over the wall into the opposite corner. Rubbish keeper that inspires zero confidence, I’ll be glad when he is gone.
