If Fulham don't take up their option, Palace might come in for an offer? We do need defensive midfielder cover, especially if McCarthy moves on which looks likely. Reed looks prone to a lot of injury, and doesn't look a safe option to me?

Why would Fulham not take him? Looked mustard the other night. Just the sort of thing Palace could do with. Inevitably Roy would ship him out on loan (see Scott Banks). Flynn Downes is the other good option from Ipswich for £4m. Seen him a couple of times - top player.

We need to reduce the average age of our midfield which must be around 30.
Realistically Hodgson doesn’t seem to consider the younger options of Meyer and Riedewald as consistent starters so we have to look elsewhere.
Harrison Reed is an energetic, tenacious player with some passing skills and could be seen as a long term replacement for Mcarthur.
Personally I would prefer Conor Gallagher who I think would offer more going forward.

I'd sooner we tried for Maitland-Niles who's been told he can leave Arsenal. Versatile but I think if we used him in his natural position at centre mid, would be a top purchase for us.

Not a bad shout but I think midfield can wait until next year. Other positions more important at present.

I'm actually of the complete opposite opinion. I genuinely think that the one area of the pitch we have been massively lacking in is centre midfield. Yes we have lots of CM but they are all the same type of players and what we have missed more than anything is the CM that is of the Cabaye/RLC ilk that can carry the ball forward, pick a pass and create a bit more going forward.

That's not to say we don't need a striker and wide player, but having a striker with nobody to create behind them will be pointless. If we had an RLC in the team last year, I think we'd have seen more from Zaha, the strikers scoring more and we'd have been much more comfortable than we were.

People will say use Meyer, but I think with the setup we have, we need a more traditional number 8 whereas he tends to play in the hole and we just don't play in the way that will ever see the best of him.

I think AMN would offer us a bit more going forward, a bit more composure on the ball in the middle of the park but also versatile enough to be a perfect fit for us.

Agree with you. And Luca's form has been very patchy

I agree that we need a different sort of player in that area, however we are pretty well stocked and I'm guessing we can't afford to do everything at once. If Wilf goes we need two wingers and a CF minimum. If we have more money than that to spend then I totally agree that creativity in the centre of the park is next on the list.

Do we need another defensive type player. He was straight of the Danny Murphy school of continually passing sideways. Fulham may have had more of an attacking stance during the play-off final, but I was screaming at them to pass forwards rather than backward, Reed being one of the main offenders (I note the irony). I imagine RH has watched that game to get a look at Watkins and decided that the midfielder with the ability to keep the ball (albeit against tawdry opposition) was the one to watch. Big yawn of a player - but based on one incredibly sh!te game.

So I manage a Workshop which provides a safe learning environment for blokes struggling with PTSD and other mental health issues. Being a Palace fan isn't listed yet.

luka was top for a decent pass and quite a few shots. Now he sits there.
That's it,sits there.
Systems or the system we play is why I'm sure.
Doesnt go outside his imaginary circle.
