Agreed every club can have a bad window as they fail to sign their key targets. We seem to have had 4/5 on the trot which suggest our strategy is wrong.

If we can only afford a Mondeo there is no point shopping in the Ferrari store and hoping the salesman will knock 50% of the valuation.

If we don't have much money then it is better to look at cheaper targets. I would love a striker that scores 30 goals per season but unless you are incredibly lucky they are expensive. So I would settle for 2 strikers that score 10-15 goals per season each. Burnley have 3/4 strikers who just creep into double figures but it allows Dyche to rotate when they are out of form.

How correct you are, for some reason we do not seem to tap in to the affordable talent that is around in the lower divisions or indeed the european markets we good player are often available at affordable prices, both Ian Wright and Jamie Vardy are proof that is so. Our problem is we have DOF who is not on the ball, he should have a a bank of player he has researched for various positions so that when there is a need we can move quickly to fill the gap or in our case gap's that are present in our squad. Our strategy seems to be firefighting at the last minute for aged bargains, sick notes or loan deals all of which are often only temporary solutions.

I would say it is because we are always looking for a sticking plaster to fill the gaping chasm in certain positions instead of gradually introducing younger and cheaper talent to a side.

If you buy one established player for £40m or 8 at £5m with potential, then that one player can only play one position and probably only for 3 years or so before ageing and losing value. Going the other route, not only might you unearth a gem but chances are if you are going youth with potential (and £5m per player is lets face it still a wedge of cash and should get you decent youngsters), then there is every chance you get to recoup your money and strengthen the base of your side.

Maybe this is the future plan, my biggest issue is trying to understand what plan we are trying to implement.

Unfortunately looking at the present market and probably way into the future not having much money is not a good place to be. £20 million seems to be the amount to pay to pick up any possible quality from the Championship. Going abroad maybe cheaper but perhaps more risky due to the possibility of not settling on and off the pitch. In relation to Tekkers I could see Villa having a punt but that would probably be the last day of the window and for a lower fee, like any other possible buyer. This would obviously not help balancing the books for any other transfer dealings this window.

Suspect the top 6 would love a striker like that but you are spot on about a couple of 10 goal a season strikers. Ayew might well do it, scored 9 this season and if he got some better help no reason not to hit double figures this season. Hate to say it but Neil Maupay scored 10 goals last season for the Weeds . Great for competition and rotation.

If the likes of Tekkers stays we really do have to get a winger in who can put a dangerous cross into the box, either in free play or corners as others have said. This QPR player, Eze does not look like this type of winger, but a Wilf type. Ryan Fraser springs too mind. Get them practicing from dawn to sunset on the training pitch as well.

Sadly, this is the problem, his overly controlling way of running this club is the problem, whilst he has to take overall responsibility he has never learned to empower his people and I suspect DF as DoF, still has to get his approval if he wants to travel scouting players for now and for the future!

Nice to know an EX player (not, THAT good) stibks his oar in.

Players like Wright and Vardy don't come along very often to be fair.

Much as I have been critical of Dougie, I would also point out that when he was manager, he wanted to sign Vardy but Parish wouldn't risk the £1m fee....Leicester did...

Benteke appears to have been Pardew and Parish's idea of a marquee signing to announce to the world Palace are in the big time. A few years down the line and it is apparent that that is a financial tactic best left to others. I had to remind myself what Cabaye cost: a mere £10m. Good players are out there, it's up to the scouting network to identify them.
