Reasons to be optimistic ?

So, ignoring my nom de plume, here goes: 1. We were missing some key defensive players during our last 9 games and our game is built on defence. 2. In the last 9 games, with the exception of Villa and Bournemouth, we were playing the teams in the top half of the table who had more to play for than us. 3. If our first choice team and first choice bench are fit and ready we have proven we can get the points we need (yes we were lucky in a few of our point winning matches but then we were unlucky in others) 4. We may yet recruit more players. The vast majority of EPL teams have done even less business than us, i.e. they haven't brought anyone in, so it's not that we're losing out (YET) because everyone else is picking up the players we want. 5. Since the EPL was formed there have only been 3 occasions were one of the promoted teams didn't go straight back down. Indeed, during our current stint in the EPL there have been 3 occasions on which 2 of the promoted teams went straight back down. As to our fate this coming season? I'll reserve judgement till the end of the transfer windows (there are two windows in that we can deal with football clubs for an additional week or so after the main window closes). How did I do?

There is no reduction in this years TV/prize money so our transfer budget should have gone up a bit. The amount that was to be paid back will be paid over the next few years by a slight reduction in future payments but with renegotiation of some deals coming to an end soon, there should be no future reductions.

There is no reduction in this years TV/prize money so our transfer budget should have gone up a bit.

The amount that was to be paid back will be paid over the next few years by a slight reduction in future payments but with renegotiation of some deals coming to an end soon, there should be no future reductions.

Ok, I thought of something. I reckon there is only 1 relegation place really to be filled for next season. I fully expect Fulham and West Brom to go back down (I would have been more wary if Brentford had been promoted). I think Leeds will spend and survive, Aston Villa to spend again to strengthen, and I can't see West Ham having such a poor season again. That leaves a few clubs in contention for that last spot. Palace (We all hope not) Brighton (we all hope so) Southampton (depending on whether Ings is sold) Newcastle (now that there Saudi money ticket has gone) Burnley (maybe, depending all whether Dyche stays or not) Sheffield United (may suffer second season syndrome)

Ok, I thought of something.

I reckon there is only 1 relegation place really to be filled for next season.

I fully expect Fulham and West Brom to go back down (I would have been more wary if Brentford had been promoted).

I think Leeds will spend and survive, Aston Villa to spend again to strengthen, and I can't see West Ham having such a poor season again.

That leaves a few clubs in contention for that last spot.
Palace (We all hope not)
Brighton (we all hope so)
Southampton (depending on whether Ings is sold)
Newcastle (now that there Saudi money ticket has gone)
Burnley (maybe, depending all whether Dyche stays or not)
Sheffield United (may suffer second season syndrome)

Sheff U might well do a Huddersfield as you say. Do get a feeling that everybody within the club realises that things have got to change, particularly after the really poor run at the end of the season. Not sure if WBA will go down again with Bilic at the helm. Sheff U might well do a Huddersfield as you say. Do get a feeling that everybody within the club realises that things have got to change, particularly after the really poor run at the end of the season. Defence will hopefully be stronger for opening and the attack will have a new look.

Doing some basic numbers, 25000 times �35 is �875k, after expenses, id imagine theres still a hefty amount left as profit. granted that dooesnt take into account season tickets and kids tickets, but does give a real idea as to the rough revenue that match days generate. We have a sound defence when we have our pick of the first team. -Tomo and Cahill will be back. -If Sakho leaves his wages will be off the books. If he doesn�t one of the three will be in the top 3 CB subs in the country. We are in a better financial position than almost every club in country. Condensing the season will count against teams in Europe.
