I'm hoping we won't sell Guaita but if he does leave after being linked to Real Betis, Butland's price has just dropped considerably and could see him as an excellent replacement and definitely within our price range. Thoughts?

Certainly worth a look. Would provide great competition for the Number 1 spot if rediscovering his past form.

8-10 million is certainly worth a punt given his experience and age.

Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Agreed, if we had the money to spare but we don't and our real needs are further forward. In the unlikely event that Guaita were to leave then that would change everything, However, at present I want DF, SP and CO to focus on the urgent needs up front.

Very good GK and has some integrity about him. He’s given it a fair crack at stoke trying again to get back to the prem and has been straight with them around not accepting a new offer from them - too good for the Championship and we do need to move Hennessy on IMO . If VG goes back to Spain for big bucks Butland would be a shrewd signing for reasonable money.

The main shock I got from this is that he's 27. I thought he would be 30 odd by now. He would be great for us but 10 mil still more than we will pay on a Goalie. Last expensive one was Nigel Martyn.

Yep, I'd take him. You'd want a solid keeper for him to compete with to keep him sharp (given PL appearances, Hennessey does qualify as that).

Money needed elsewhere, but we'd get most of that money for Guaita if he were to go.
