As well as the 'buy back / sell on clause' maybe write a refund clause into the contract too, if he stiffs after one season like Benteke or becomes an injury liability like Sakho we can get a full refund, we've give the scouse lot far too much in recent years, can't say it's been VFM to be honest

Let’s not get too excited. He could be the next Dominic Solanke.

It's about age, future prospects/future potential worth and position.

If this kid develops into a good Prem league striker we can benefit in two ways, firstly through his goals and secondly, should we want/need to sell, by his future increased value. How much profit will depend on the terms of any buy-back or sell-on clauses. Strikers tend to cost more than players in other positions for obvious reasons.

As for Thiago, he's unlikely to be worth any more than £25m in any future sale because of his age (29 last April). You might ask, is AWB worth twice as much as Thiago? If so why?

If we pay 20m it's because of his potential, not because he's proved he's worth that so we are taking the risk while Liverpool get instant cash. Unless the buy back is significantly higher than what Liverpool sell him to us for then it seems heavily weighted in their favour: they don't need him right now, but they don't want to risk a situation where he proves he is a top class striker and they have to pay insane sums to get him back. We on the other hand would either end up with a striker who might not prove to be worth 20m+, or he does and then we lose him with little profit.

I know this is all stating the obvious, but I hope if we get him then (as others have said) the buy back is at least double what we pay for him and that we don't have an insane sell-on included in the deal. After all, if he was already a cert to be top class then Liverpool would not be selling.

As others have said Liverpool are trying to structure the deal so that we take all of the risk and if he develops they can buy him back on the cheap.

I have no idea if he is any good but we need to tell Liverpool that as we are taking a risk on potential the money / buy back needs to reflect this.

Or we go for Grant at Huddersfield.

Palace have done really well this transfer window so far and I am confident this will continue, crossing fingers and toes!

I really don't understand this one. £20m for someone who has played 26 professional games? This has to be one of the biggest risks the club has taken on a player by a long way..? Especially when you look at what £20m players other clubs are buying

I am not saying you, but this site is full of those (not without some justification) criticising the club's buying record of old crocks discarded by bigger clubs, leaving an ageing squad who are just off pace and vulnerable to long term injury.

We have now pushed X players through from our own academy, have acquired 5 from elsewhere, have bought Eze, Ferguson and may be looking to add Downes and a young CB; and now we are seeking an England youth striker to add to the depth of the squad and reduce the average age. If you include the move to a cat 1 academy, you might argue that this is the sort of risk this club has been crying out for.

I don't think that anyone is criticizing the potential purchase of this young striker but it's the likely terms of the deal that people seem to be wary of

However you could add we always end up being shafted by Liverpool in the transfer market.
