it shud be harmonica and hobo stick for ...

Meyer
Sakho
Benteke
Wickham

and I'd put McArthur on the list if we can get a younger replacement

and I'm not sure we need five defensive midfielders (six if you include Meyer), so maybe Kouyate as well, keep Riedewald

With Eze coming in and looks like others to follow;

• Fraser
• One of Mateta, Edoard or Watkins
• Kotchap
• Then a couple of loanees

There must be a balancing of the books, need to move a few players on and nudge them out of “the nest”.
So who is going to/might be on their way..??

• Meyer – I like Max as a player, but he’s had chances and never quite nailed it – maybe a little lightweight for the at this point for the Prem – but I fear could come back and bite us.
• Riedewald – Ditto Meyer.
• Sakho – Again I like Sakho, but always concerned there is a mistake just around the corner. Probably now 3rd choice centre half if everyone is fit after Tomkins and Cahill, maybe even 4th if Roy persists with trying Kouyate at centre half. Then you have the potential of Kotchap coming in.
• Dann – has been great for us but sadly think his time might be done but not sure we would get much interest.
• Townsend – Didn’t play a lot last season, I was half expecting him to be a “makeweight” in the Eze deal.
• Schlupp – can’t see it Roy seems to like him – and when fit always performs well, good bench player and gives us cover all down the left and in central midfield.
• Ayew – no double player of the year last season, although think his opportunities maybe a little more limited next season.
• Benteke – again with Benteke I think it’s there, but his confidence seems shot – maybe a move would suit all parties.
• Zaha – the big one..!! I’m becoming less sure about Zaha leaving by the day – at the end of the season it was a definite yes for me, he’s off, was showing no interest and looked for all the world like a player who wanted to be moving on. Now he’s being pictured happily smiling in the new kit, playing and scoring in friendlies. On from that Eze’s comments about our plans, playing with great players etc.. Beyond that no real bids or suitors coming out of the “woodwork”. Time will tell..!!
Just some thoughts, obviously not all of them will go – but will be interesting..!!

On leavers I would like us to “ship out” Hennessey and bring in Butland – it’s just a personal view but think that would be a great move.

COYP

Why would Ayews opportunities be limited next season? Not trendy enough for us ( like when we replaced the old balding Murray with the young tanned , tattooed Wickham??) how did that pan out?
Was our best attacking player last year, probably relegated without him. Should be out main man. Think he’s better as a second striker or playing a bit wider.

Those who are near the end of their contracts and sicknote high earners, the club needs a clear out and doesn't have the finance to carry those who contribute little but take much. So, the likes of Benteke, Wickham, and Sahko for starters. Meyer doesn't fit Hodgson's system and is on big money so him too. Zaha should go, mainly because he put in a transfer request.
The aim should be to get the average squad age down by 4/5 years and reduce wages - extra salary should come by way of bonuses for performance.

Agree. We should be 60 grand a week maximum , maybe plus bonuses. The teams round us aren’t paying £400 grand a week on 4 players.

McArthur has been one of our most consistent and important players for years. Absolute madness. As for the rest of them I agree except Benteke. He’s our only out and out striker at the club bar Wickham and he was starting to look much better second half of the season. I’d like to see him given a chance with another creative attacking player because he has been feeding off scraps for 2 years.

The extension of Jimmy Mac's contract suggests he isn't going anywhere just yet (but I suppose if a decent offer were made for him we might let him go).

I agree with you re Benteke although a lot will depend on the final make-up of our squad at the end of this window. In any event, if Dazza is to be believed (and I do believe him) Benteke is staying with us.

I'm happy to see Sakho, Meyer and Wickham off our books so as to free up wages and provide us with more wriggle room in future windows.

I have to say I wish I had your optimism. I would be over the moon if we brought in 3 more players let alone another 5.

I'm pretty sure Wickham already has a walking stick.

Don't be silly. With his income I am sure it would be a mobility scooter.
