We all saw/heard what happened at a dozen grounds at least a few months back, will be a lot worse with full grounds. IMO. The only reason it’s gone on this long is because there is no fans in the stadiums. As soon as the fans return it will stop. I had no problem with it at first but it’s gone on far too long and it’s time for it to end. The point has been made.

I wonder how many players deep down are actually fed up with it now but to scared to say or stop?

First Crystal Palace match I ever went to, the opposition fans made monkey noises at Ian Wright, second one people threw bananas at John Barnes. I was 7 years old. I was told that Crystal Palace were crap because they had too many "C**ns and half casts" in the team. Actual adults said this to a 7 year old. That was a long time ago, and I often wonder what happened to the fans who used to do that. Im guessing they are between 50 and 75 now. Do they consider the 80's and 90's the good old days? Do they think everything was better before "political correctness" got in the way? I wonder if the people who just did it as "banter" have changed their views, and if they did, what caused them to change? Was it realising that the world now considered that kind of thing disgusting? Or did they just grow up? Who knows, I expect the people who were doing it have re-written those events in their heads by now so that it was "Other people that did that kind of thing". Who knows, I cant say what they were thinking back then, all I know is that for a brief time, I thought that Crystal Palace shouldn't have any black players because nobody will take us seriously if black players scored...again I was 7... Anyway, bit of a tangent there! Back to the point, back then, nobody cared what happened at some crappy tinpot stadium on the outskirts of London. This is 2021 and the premiership is the biggest watched competition in the world. Literally the whole world watches us and we need to set an example. Racism must not be tolerated anywhere and with a team typically comprised of a Spaniard, 5 Brits, a dutchman, a Serbian, a Senegalese, a Ghanian, a Brit/Ivorian, and countless other nationalities in rotation, being seen as a club that despises racism in all forms is pretty important. I doubt given the makeup of our squad, that any of them had to be pressured or coerced into it! BLM was really bad optics though, they should have gone for a different name, but as long as you understand what its actually about rather than the title then Im sure very few of you are against their objectives...

I remember the stick that Vince Hilaire used to get or black players on the other side I would have been a kid. Goading players was and still is part of fan culture and people thought it funny back then. This was an era when women were birds or totty and men were fatty or baldy etc. You shouldn't be too hard on fans don't forget Love Thy Neighbour was the hit ITV show with every other word been racially offensive (I saw a clip recently and was shocked) and Saturday Night prime time on the BBC was the Black and White Minstrel show. Of course it was wrong but when the mainstream media was putting out this stuff what do you expect. Things did change during the Eighties and I remember plenty of games where someone would start with the racist nonsense and people around them would tell them to shut up so gradually the idiots slunk away or realised their idiocy. I don't think I know anybody from that era who still thinks its okay to say such things and that i think is a good thing.
