All we are talking about is the Roy effect our club.. its extremely negative in parts.

Ive taken Roy for his word, he is going to be attack minded, but so far in the friendlies and at Soton, now last night, its classix Roy tactics.......

will he surprise on Saturday with all out attack and beating utd 4-3.. that would be some thing....
Roy the goal is at the other end of the pitch!!

Roy is and has been a very competent manager. Probably the best Palace has had in the premier league. Are people on the tread so ignorant to notice the situation at Everton for example. It is extremely difficult to stay in this league. Two hundred million under Silva ? Koeman ?

Absolutely, but I suspect the fear was that if we ditched it for this year that would be seen as the thin end of the wedge and the competition's death knell.

It was clear from the team RH put out that it was all about giving some key players vital game time and a few you8ngsters the chance to mix it at a level higher than they are used to.

Both RH and RL spoke about how pleased they were and I don't think that was anything to do with the result but about the objectives they had set for some of the players.

Despite some of my past comments about Roy. He's got the last two games spot on based on the players he has available.

I cant work out in my own mine if I'd like him to revert to 3 holding midfielders on Saturday or stick with 4-4-2. Not that I'm generally a fan of either.

Either way. Now's not the time to sack a manager. He's had players in every position he asked for. Time to prove me wrong.

The last managers we had who were attack minded nearly got us relegated with this squad, please remember we are where we are right now (still in PL), because of the skills of Roy and his coaching team who have kept us up for the last three years and as a consequence have made a substantial financial contribution to this club. The one thing they are not responsible for is how the club spends the money!

The main issue with this is that, if he goes all out attack at Old Trafford, you'd call for his head because we'd lose 5-0.
Instead, if we go (like we should) well organized, defensively sound, and ready to counterattack, like we did last time, and as happened last time we win 2-1, you'd come here saying that we were lucky to win because we were poor, uninspiring etc, and if we played all out attack we'd have win with bigger margins or with a spectacular 4-3.
But that only works in your head, not in the real world.

One game into a season is NEVER the time for the manager to go.

especially after on of the more promising xfer windows we've had in recent years - which isn't over yet.

give him a chance to do something this year.

Most managers have a set of KPI which determine the companies view on their performance - I dont know what RH & RL set of KPI are & how they are individually weighted but I would imagine that KPI number 1 (probably weighted with quite a high %age number) would be - Keep us in the Premier League.

In between that there are probably a few more such as involving youngsters from the academy etc etc etc

Probably quite low ( maybe even at the bottom of the list or not even on the list at all would be - play sparkling attacking football to keep the supporters happy.

Ultimately the club is a business & the biggest paymaster to that business is the Premier League / TV & any spin offs -

Whilst the money through the turnstiles & the good feelings of the fans does have some importance it would be easy to see how the club would place the importance of maintaining the income of the biggest paymasters over pretty much everything else.

If were safe by the end of February 21 then absolutely RH will be offered another year on his contract.

And if come end of Feb 21 and we're safe and Roy's contract is extended for another year...? I know 'Nightmare on Holmesdale Road'

He is, after all, involved whilst the club are putting into place their longer term plan of bringing in younger players etc.

Please let him go. I've already posted on another thread that after 36 years of having a season ticket I'm not renewing until we get rid of Hodgson.

New stats to add to the case against him:
Fourth year in a row under RH of being knocked out of the League Cup by lower division sides; third cup game in a row against lower opposition and we've not scored in any of them.

Good points Dutchie. I would only add that if attendances stayed severely restricted, football teams that thrive will be those that people want to watch. That's a more long term comment but most definitely worth keeping in mind today.

Roy Hodgson knows more about the game of football than I'd ever know in a hundred lifetimes. I suspect he knows more about football than any of us who post on here. He's well liked in the football world and he's well respected. He will probably keep us in the Premier League for another season.

But I'm losing the will to live watching those same tedious defensive tactics season after season. Two games in and it's the same old pattern. Even the team we fielded in the League Cup looked frightened to cross the halfway line. Other roughly comparable clubs like Southampton, Burnley, Sheffield United and even (sorry to say it) Brighton at least have a go at entertaining the supporters.

Roy does what he does very well. But like many others on this forum I've had enough of him doing it.
