Absolutely agree GPW - Supporters will put up with paying for a product that they dont particularly enjoy or approve of for a limited period of time out of loyalty or the fact that they already paid for the season ticket or the hope that it will eventually get better. However (as many have said on here) in order for it to get better we need an influx of younger faster players, which we are now beginning to see materialize but there is no 5 minute fix, this will be a process which the club will want to try to undergo without risking the "golden egg" & without alienating themselves as much as possible from the committed fan base.
Also - as someone from the club said a couple of seasons ago - Selhurst park is a technical sell out every game (obviously that would only remain true if the hard core supporters stay attracted to the club & the club stays in the premier league, whereby you could sell pretty much any remaining match day tickets to those who didn't want to / couldn't commit to season tickets, clearly if the club got relegated during this journey the short & long term financial fall out would be quite damaging)
whichever way you look at it I am sure that the club would rather be playing attractive attacking football but it would seem to me that the pathway to that end is still a bit away.

Adding Ferguson, Batshuayi & Eze (maybe Benrahma) to this team and keeping thr existing squad shows what a great job Roy is doing. You need the players to play good football. Bournemouth and Norwich played expansive football and that finished well. Anyone who says they want to see exciting football over premier league is in the minority. Ticket sales over the past 8 years vs the championship years is clear evidence that being in the premier league is what the majority of fans want to see. Roy’s objective has been to stay in the league on a shoe string budget.

Agreed it will be interesting to see how Leeds adapt if they fail to pick up many points after 3 or 4 games .

Really? Wins against all but one teams in Warm Ups (Bronby was a draw) A win against Southampton who stormed the latter end of last season whilst we lost most of our games. A narrow loss against Bournemouth on penalties in the 'Who Cares About This Cup' competition etc. Hardly the worst possible start.

Palace board must have some idea where they want to get to but it's always the journey which is the problem. You can throw money at the team and stadium but that is no guarantee of success. It the last five years the following clubs have spent nett : Brighton £197 M, Bournemouth 133m, West ham 155m, Watford 95.2m. two have gone down two finished below us last season. Our spend was £55m. Then look at Everton their nett spend was 275m. So Roy hasn't done too bad. The most we should hope for is a cup or europa place.Keeping us in the premiership is number 1 priority until we require the funds to improve the squad other than from TV money. Hence more supporters and corporate boxes.I.e. bigger stadium. Other than that its someone with big pockets.

Now that puts plenty into perspective. Good post.

I'm curious to see what will happen this year, as the season before last when we had Cabaye, RLC and Bats we were often referred to as one of the most entertaining teams to watch outside of the top 6. We lost those players and didn't replace them suitably and so Roy seemed to be pragmatic and went for defensive solidity. If Eze can prove himself to be of the quality of RLC and if we can bring in Benrahma or another creative midfielder, then I think we might see some better football this year. If results don't go our way though and we play football like last season then I think I will lose my patience and I think the board will too. But hey, let's give Roy and the squad a chance before tearing them down; after all, we're joint top of the league on points.

An idiot thread, started by what seems suspiciously like an idiot.

Correct, clearly no appreciation of just how lucky we have been to have such a good manager and coaching team that have kept us up against the odds with little investment in the first team squad!

A thread opened by a user which only wrote this one post and never came back to even reply to his own thread.
It gives you an idea of how genuine this user and thread is.

I think you will find that the fan base has changed completely. The hardcore fans are still there, the rest are corporate entertainment and "visitors". The PL is an entertainment business for all except those who are staunch supporters of their team, for whom we all know, is much more than that.

I don't agree that it is Roy's defensive way or go down. Wolves play entertaining football as do Leicester, as do many other teams in the PL. The only other team I see that play like us is Burnley and Dyche does seem to approach matches in a similar fashion to Roy.

I agree that up until now Roy has not been backed in the market. I do however expect a change in ambition on the pitch now though as a result of the new signings. If I see no change and we start drifting down the league, then that should be the time to question whether Roy should see out the season, but certainly not now. As I said at the start of this thread, he should be given at least a third of the season to see how things progress.

Where did you see Bats, Cabaye and RLC play the season before last, as Cabaye and RLC left the season before and Bats didn't come until six months after they left?
