Echoes of Charlton fans when they wanted rid of Alan Curbishley.
They got their way, and ultimately the result was third tier football.
I'll stick with Roy, but I imagine the great man will probably call it a day at the end of the season anyway.

Palace board must have some idea where they want to get to but it's always the journey which is the problem. You can throw money at the team and stadium but that is no guarantee of success. It the last five years the following clubs have spent nett : Brighton £197 M, Bournemouth 133m, West ham 155m, Watford 95.2m. two have gone down two finished below us last season. Our spend was £55m. Then look at Everton their nett spend was 275m. So Roy hasn't done too bad. The most we should hope for is a cup or europa place.Keeping us in the premiership is number 1 priority until we require the funds to improve the squad other than from TV money. Hence more supporters and corporate boxes.I.e. bigger stadium. Other than that its someone with big pockets.

Our board have been specifically targeting players in positions we need filling most.

It does show if you give a manager free reign over spending they are likely to piss a lot of money up the wall.

We've got a pretty stable and professional squad over a series of managers. A testiment to how the club is run. The only time we really went mental over transfers is when we were promoted. Brighton have been wasting money all over the place since they got into the Championship.

Except for right back, which they seemed to ignore and to a lesser extent centre forward. Everywhere else I grant has been competently covered.

I'm not so sure. If this window is the start of the new plan (as it seems to be) and if all goes well this season (i.e we finish in a comfortable or even better position), Roy may we be asked ()and agree to stay around for another year to bed in part two of the new plan arising from next summer's transfer window.

There is a difference between targetting which is what the poster said and actually signing. We were after Ferguson in January and presumably see him as the long term solution to the RB problem provided he recovers fully from his injury.

Getting the right striker is a very tricky job. I don't know who we've been targetting in the past two windows but at least we now have Batshuayi for this season and possibly beyond if he performs to our liking. If we can get Brewster as well, we could be well set for the foreseeable future. It's then a question of who we can attract to our upgraded academy and whether any of the existing members will be able to make the leap to the PL for us.

well read most of the posts did make me laugh the original post. I would like to see Roy go but lets see how the new signings the youngsters blend in.
was a little upset about the cup exit because for me to progress we need to pick up a trophy or 2 and get us into Europe. that way the better players would A,stay and B,we could attract bigger names and C,Better sponsorship deals, called knock on effect.

I did enjoy the original post i would have him in the trenches everyday one soldier gets shot lets surrender, alot of us on here have been supporting palace and dodging bullets for years, so dont panic capt Mainwaring

Where did you see Bats, Cabaye and RLC play the season before last, as Cabaye and RLC left the season before and Bats didn't come until six months after they left?

Ok, it seems my memory is terrible! I suppose that's a good thing after last season's football.

Mostly from our opponents

Just to be positive for a second, after signing Eze we now have one of the PL's best dribblers in Zaha, one of the top 3 dribblers from last season's Championship in Eze and Ayew, who is also very good on the ball. Now we might still struggle to string three passes together, but if we do add Benrahma in as well it could be hard work for opposition defences (although we still need to put it in the net). I still think the return to 442 is a big step in improving the quality of our football, as we are not a possession team so 5 in midfield is a waste and three holding midfielders limits our counter attacking potency. I think Roy and Palace will do well this season.

Staying on a positive note, I, too, think we can and hopefully will do well this season. From what Roy said yesterday, it seems Benrahma isn't our no 1 priority at present (but that could, of course, be a smokescreen) and that we want another striker, first.

No one could disagree with that, this has been our weakness for sometime now!

We sign or loan a new striker pretty much every transfer window.
