We sign or loan a new striker pretty much every transfer window.

In my mind a striker is a 20 goal plus per season man, we have not had a good sniffer striker like Ings or Vardy who are both out and out goal poachers who anticipate and seek the back of the net at every opportunity. Loanees are usually fringe players who are not quite there as a first team regular and are often in need of gametime!

Unfortunately, every other club is looking for exactly the same thing. For every Vardy and Ings clubs waste hundreds of millions of pounds. Take Tosun and Batshuayi. Our previous managers wanted to sign them both for £30m each!

Vardy cost Leicester 1mil from fleetwood Town in 2012 and our own Ian Wright came from Greenwich Borough so there are bargains are out there you just need to have the scouting infrastructure that finds them. As for Batshuayi and Tosun, no comment, that why they are our on loan, just remember we paid 27mil for Benteke, four goals since 2017, so paying the cash does not guarantee a good striker.

Questions for the Roy-out crowd:

*Do you think the players we have are capable of playing more front-foot, possession-based football and getting significantly more points?

*if not, do you blame Roy for that?

*If yes, which players would you select for this bolder approach?

*If we played possession-based, dominant football, how would you deal with the fact our defenders are relatively slow and/or not fabulous in 1 on 1s, and we don't look a team with the legs for a pressing game?

I think there are marginal changes he could make that would make us more attractive to watch and attacking-- specifically integrating Meyer into the starting 11 more, although isn't he anyway in his final year?-- but overall I'm not sure how much Roy can change it up with the players he has.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Sorry I do not remember that one, sadly we missed out but at least we know there are bargains out there that do not have to cost a fortune. The hard bit is finding them!

Good points Dutchie. I would only add that if attendances stayed severely restricted, football teams that thrive will be those that people want to watch. That's a more long term comment but most definitely worth keeping in mind today.

Good point. Perhaps they should divide the tv money not on leaugue position but based on how many neutrals switched a team off sky sports because they were bored s***less by an unattractive game.

Roy will still be in charge when he is wheeled on in his bath-chair.

And still keeping Palace in the Premier League.

I think this is probably the best approach. We do not have players suited to possession football, but what we do have is flair players like Zaha, Ayew, Eze and Bats, who are capable of quick interchanges and going at defenders with trickery and pace. Apparently Ferguson is a good passer and is capable of getting forward well, which combined with Andros, Wilf, Ayew, or possibly Benrahama/other could give us a more threatening and balanced attack. If Luka can re-find form he is actually a very capable passer and so is Riedewald and both could be very good at springing counter attacks. Last season Andros was out of form and injured, Wilf was off his game and we had no creativity in midfield. We stayed up through a really strong work ethic and organisation. With Wilf (hopefully) getting back to his best, Eze adding creativity to the midfield and a new option up top in Bats there is plenty of reason to be optimistic. I know a good workman shouldn't blame his tools, but last season many of Roy's tools were broken or blunt.

Rosenior on TSN (here in Malta) did just refer to us as the dullest PL team last weekend though, so let's hope we surprise everyone today.

If he can avoid defeat in the next two matches I suspect this thread will fade away.

But if we play his favoured and same old 'back to the wall' tactics then this will spark again.

If the Southampton performance is a guide (we were lucky) I suspect the latter.

I dont think anyones asking for a great change in the way we play overall. It's just that it almost seems that roy tells players not to push forward for the first 70 mins. Wether we're playing man city or Norwich...
