I was one of Hodgson’s sternest critics last season.
The rigidity in our play, defensive shape even against weaker teams and persistence with 4-5-1 which meant the wide players were closer to our own goal than the opponent’s.
Looks like Hodgson has had a change of heart in the summer and is now playing 4-4-2 which many fans wanted.
We look better balanced all over the field and Zaha is freed from some of his defensive responsibilities.
Let’s hope for more of the same.

Yes but you’d elected to ignore the football we’d played when Roy had attacking options previously and how small the squad was.
And those who disagreed were referred to as Roy’s “supporters” and “apologists”

The only different player Hodgson used in the starting line up from last season was Mitchell .
He could have used this system last season.

Not true. Schlupp was injured for most of the post lockdown games and made a difference when he came in at the end of the season after the Palace COVID bitch fest.

the backtracking on here makes me laugh...if only people could have a steady, not kneejerk, reasoned train of thought these idiotic threads would not be needed.

Spot on. Schlupp and Townsend spent a good chunk of last season injured.

I’ve only said Roy should go if we have a good new manager agreed coming in.

It’s a bit funny reading people getting carried away after 2 results when in reality we’ve got on the right side of Roy’s margins for now with barely any possession, taken our few chances, been gifted a penalty, to be taken twice. Roy is what he is. It goes alright with a bit of luck and then matches are hopeless after 20 mins. It just doesn’t get me interested much anymore. In time it will change. If anyone enjoys this apart from the goals then I don’t see how. But if he keeps us here for something better then fine. It’s when he inevitably doesn’t change during hopeless runs of losses people get frustrated.

For the first time since he has been at the club he has different attacking options. He has got slaughtered year after year when a lot of the time he didn’t even have a fit striker and no options from the bench to change a game. If your not happy with today’s performance then I’m afraid there’s no hope for you.

I didn’t say that. We were on the right side of things. This is Roy’s strategy. Play out the season, take advantage of clubs who need a win and maybe get the breaks. Other times it’s game over after 20 mins as there’s nothing different going to happen. It isn’t gripping but needs must if the owners are how they are. At some point there will have to be a new manager and change.

How very true, Brauny.
