It’s inevitable this blog becomes a political discussion not about the poor policeman shot dead. As I said earlier, pro football is on very thin ice right now. It has already lost about 20% of its income from stadium closures. Outside the premier it is hard to see how it can possibly survive. Yet this huge issue is being totally ignored in most cases. So to see firstly a minutes silence for the policeman shot dead by a criminal followed by another minutes silence for BLM is totally absurd especially when the stadium is empty. I would suggest if it had been full the clash between the two causes would have caused some uneasiness. Whichever way it is looked at, football has taken itself to places it should remove itself from and focus on its very own survival.

Being pedantic, it's not a minute silence, it's taking the knee for a few seconds (5, I think).

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I'm presuming that the cases you cite obtained convictions. I don't know if they resulted in Public Enquiries where the findings spoke of 'institutional racism' within the Police force.

No doubt 26 years ago some people would have been bleating about it all being a storm in a teacup, with nowt to worry about;just the moaning of 'extremists'.

i know some things never change but I live in hope.

I can't let your ignorance go unchallenged.

The case of Kriss Donald certainly resulted in eventual convictions as did Lawrence's. (one released, all but one due for release this decade) However, the difference in press coverage was night and day. His family weren't given societal status and coverage. There was no commentary on 'racism' within the community that produced the murderers.

This institutional reaction was later revealed as the typical response to anything negative that might be associated with minorities. The 'fear' of being labeled racist took over as the main concern. We see this within institutional behaviour all the time, for example the mass country wide rapes by mainly pakistani gangs being ignored for decades.

So it's apt that you cite the Macpherson report because it's mostly down to that pile of poop that our Police force became the managerially 'progressive#, minority servile, anti right wing institution it now is.

If the Police are 'institutionally racist' then everybody is racist, which makes calling it out pointless.

The whole idea is ridiculous. If Police fail in their duties with non whites it's assumed as racism instead of incompetence and that's down to people like you.

You live in hope? You live in 'hope not hate' more like.

My Asian policeman mate went to a London train station yesterday to do role-play with a couple of his uniformed colleagues.

Two white uniformed officers were meant to arrest my mate (dressed in civvies) on the station concourse. As the 'arrest' was taking place, two black guys (who had nothing to do with the scenario), tried to intervene.

"You white police officers can't arrest a coloured guy"

It was explained to the 2 fella's that all the people were police officers and they should go about their business and not get involved.

Lot's of issues in that story

Just a note: the first conviction and sentence in the Kriss Donald case was secured in November 2004 – 8 months after the crime. Two convictions were secured for Lawrence’s murderers; in 2004, 19 years after the crime. You fail to mention a facet of the Donald murder and that is gang warfare. It was reported that the killing may have been a revenge attack for a previous gang fight. Whereas you are implying that it was purely racially motivated (like the Lawrence slaying was).Selective.

'This institutional reaction was later revealed as the typical response to anything negative that might be associated with minorities.' No, the BBC apologised for lack of coverage about the case and trial, which is different from ‘a typical response to anything negative that might be associated with minorities.’ One apology over one case is different from ‘typical’. That is your opinion

It is sad that you should comment that the McPherson report as a ‘pile of poop’ but clearly shows where you are coming from.

I don’t doubt, for a second, that big institutions will often engage in ‘box ticking’ in order to avoid public criticism. However, to suggest that all efforts to improve those institutions should be abandoned to stop future ‘box ticking’ is absurd, in my opinion.

I won’t deny that news reporting can be guilty of ‘box ticking’ and in the Donald case, avoided a free reporting response in view of this. However, care is needed here, unless you wish to ‘throw the baby out with the bathwater’.

You write that today’s police have become “anti right-wing”. What are you implying? That today’s police force is a left - wing temple? Come on, that is an absurd notion. Today’s force are encouraged to come down hard on all extremist groups that champion and invoke violence and hatred.

‘People like me’? Why such a comment? You consider me to be an apologist for anti right-wing sentiment, I’m supposing. Good, because I am and I am also against all sentiments that promote hatred and prejudice. Wherever they come from.

Guilty as charged.

Excuse all the jiggery-pokery with this last post. I was guilty of a disrespectful error in mis-naming Kriss Donald.

Apologies. I wanted to delete the first post but don't know how to do it.

Can anyone help me with that?
