I read Willo's posts with a mixture of admiration and bewilderment..

Surely he should stand for Parliament as his obfuscation qualifies him to be a spokesman capable of avoiding a straight answer to a simple question.

Regardless, he is a stalwart of HOL and must be treasured. He surely also holds the record for number of posts on any given day.

He is past his sell by date Willo.
The past counts for nothing in football where it is a results driven business and currently the results are not acceptable given how long we have now been in the top flight!
This "stay up at any costs" attitude is no good for the fans and ultimately if we are not important let them continue behind closed doors without us.
I will not set foot in the place again with him in charge - it is dire football.
I don't want us to do a Charlton and as such there is no reason for that to happen.
I do not expect to be winning the League or challenging for Champions League spots.
If I am paying though I do want some form of entertainment and right now there isn't any and there hasn't been for quite a while.
If the fans were in the ground than Hodgson would have been sacked in my opinion.
The team haven't got a clue what they are doing and I think they are way better than they are being allowed to be.
He must go and soon!

Interview with Danny Murphy 2 years ago :

MURPHY: It’s a bit strange to be congratulating someone for their age! But the way I look at it, you’ve just overtaken Sir Alex Ferguson and will equal Sir Bobby next week. That’s quite some company to keep. There must be some pride there.

HODGSON: I can’t compare my record with those guys but, yes, I am proud I’ve been able to carry on and most importantly retain the love, passion and enthusiasm for the game.

I respect Mr Hodgson for his managerial longevity, managing both at International and club level, and at some of the world's most famous clubs.
He is very much respected globally.

I am also very appreciative of the fact that he came to us when were not best placed and despite 7 straight defeats with 0 goals he took us up to 11th place in his first season and has kept us in the PL for 3 seasons with an ageing squad and on a minimum spend.

He deserves credit for what he has achieved before he joined our club and for his efforts whilst he has held the managerial 'Reins' at CPFC.

4 defeats with out a goal when he took over.

Longevity isn't a good indicator of success. Howe spent longer at Bournemouth and achieved more, yet many would still prefer Roy over him.

Many poor managers have been given the chance to be in charge of famous clubs/International teams and failed spectacularly. Roy Hodgson at Liverpool for an example, or perhaps Roy Hodgson at England? FdB was in charge of Ajax - that doesn't make him a good manager.

I wouldn't say Hodgson is well respected globally. He's popular in Scandinavia, but is generally a national laughing stock, but loved in Iceland.

If investment in the squad is what you desire, the business aren't going to plough millions into an underperforming 73 year old. No business would, even if he was meeting expectations.

I think most of us agree on the fact that investment in the squad is required.

I also agree that while the club seemingly has nothing other than a short term view in respect of the first team, it doesn't make sense to have a manager of Roy's age and who is on a 12 month contact, to oversee a job that's going to take 2/3 transfer windows at least.

As for the '' underperforming '' bit, that is where the Pro and Anti Roy factions differ.

Eddie Howe was not even born when Mr Hodgson was appointed manager of Halmstad in 1976, the first club he managed.

In terms of "Underperforming" at our club that is open to debate. He has met his objectives of keeping us in the PL.

If you think we are going down, then I cant see how you have confidence in him to meet his minimum expectation this season.

As for performance,

2 goals in our last 7 games.
2 wins in our last 12 games (against 19th with 10men and 20th place sides).
35 points in 2020.

23 points looks ok, but the more sensible Hodgson supporters realise that this has got to change before it's too late.

Again, we have the 15th most expensively assembled squad and 9th highest wage bill. We should be looking at between 11th and 13th as acceptable.

When Mr Hodgson took over the 'Reins' before the start of the 2010-11 season he did not take charge of the Champions or a team who had just finished in the top 4.They season before they finished in 7th place, 23 pts behind the winners Chelsea.

I fear Hodgson could almost take Palace down to the Conference and Willo would still be acclaiming his reputation in Scandinavia and the high esteem in which he is held internationally.
At least he doesn’t descend to mentioning that he was born in Croydon as a reason for him to retain the job I suppose.
For me, I don’t care how a manager is historically viewed in Scandinavia but am concerned with sustained poor performance over a 12 month period.
Another case of having to agree to disagree.

Hmm, but what did he do with the big fat cheque book they gave him? He bought a Royball team and the fans almost instantaneously insisted on his removal from office.

With the greatest of respect, I never singled out Scandinavia and my comments pertained to his overall football management career which of course has seen him take up the 'Reins' at clubs globally not forgetting that he also managed at an International level.

Apropos "Poor performance", in the final analysis he has met his objectives of keeping the club in the PL and perhaps with 15 players about to reach 30 or in their 30s, a degredation in performance overall is to be expected with the passage of time.
