During last week, Hodgson made a point of saying publicly words to the effect that the team that went out against Burnley had to show that we are not a 1 trick pony called Zaha, and were quite capable of winning without our talisman.

What happened?

The team that went out didn't give a fig.

In the post match interview Hodgson as good as said that he knew the game was lost once the second goal went in (despite there being over 80 minutes left). He didn't believe (and I imagine the players didn't believe) that we could come back and get something from the game. Not surprising when Hodgson sets the team up to keep a clean sheet and hope we can steal a goal from somewhere.

Contrast that with Leeds today. 4-0 down within minutes of the start of the 2nd half. What do they do? They fight tooth and nail to try and get back in the game and manage to score 2 goals. Yes they lost but they never gave up; they kept on attacking Arsenal till the end. On the managerial front. Bielsa put 2 subs on at half time and Leeds played better for him having done so. What a contrast to Palace and Hodgson.

I've had one foot in the 'Roy In' camp for much of this season, but recent performances (including in the two recent wins have left me concluding that Hodgson has to go ASAP). Ideally, SP will have someone lined up who is free and Hodgson will agree to step down or 'move upstairs' till the end of the season so the new man can get stuck in. I suspect, though that Hodgson will stumble on until the end of the season or until our PL status becomes threatened and SP feels compelled to make a change, whichever first occurs.

In such circumstances, the only people Steve Parish could get to take over the 'Reins' would be from within the club, possibly on an 'Interim' basis.

Hardly likely to attract someone from outside who cannot bring in any players and who could have a 'Relegation ' on his CV given that he would take over with the team in a crisis with the season running out.

Still confident in Roy and Auntie Pauline??

I want Roy to go now??? But yes this Palace team will get enough points this year whoever manages them and hopefully a change would give us a bounce, bring in fresh ideas and get us to saftey a little bit quicker. But even if the new appointee doesn't rip up trees (i don't think he will with this squad) he will still get enough points but more importantly be able to plan for next season early doors.

One of the biggest mysteries in life is that loud stupid people normally don't have even the slightest inclination that they are stupid.

I suppose Mr Hodgson cannot legislate for his experienced central defender making a complete mess of a routine clearance and then not having the desire or mobility to close down the player who scored the goal.

Or indeed his goalkeeper who stood routed to his line as the ball was headed in from about 4 yards.

The performances in the last 2 games are the worst I have witnessed by any team in the PL this season and I have watched a great deal of matches.

Roy Hodgson has been a great servant coming in when we really were down on our knees. We are, believe it or not, on 29 points with 24 games played.
But our performances lately have been awful and it seems our team is free falling. Quite simply, the manager has lost the plot looking like a statue when the goals keep pouring in behind our Spanish shot-stopper.
If Roy is unable to change the set-up, someone has to come in and do the necessary changes. Like stopping the suicide 4-4-2 with the two Bs on top (to start with).
I can watch all the PL games live on Thai TV. It is obvious we are by far the weakest team in the league at the moment.

We weren't on our knees. We'd lost 4 games, you'd have expected us to get points vs Huddersfield and Swansea at home and maybe a point away to Burnley, but basically he had a 7 point deficit and a team that just has £80m spent on it plus RLC and TFM brought in on load plus AWB break through. The credit he gets is a huge overstatement.

Roy's deficiencies have been well highlighted, but one thing that I note is his drift back to his beloved 4-4-2, he can't help himself. I thought 4-4-2 was a system utilising / emphasising wingers and wing play, certainly isolating the two players in the centre of midfield is not a good idea in the modern game unless you have players of the sheer technical ability of Xavi and Iniesta.
So what do we have? Our one true winger (injured) playing as a makeshift forward. A forward playing as a right winger, a number ten playing as a left winger.
Also the two forwards need to be combative, mobile, and make the opposition defence work for a living. Benteke and Batshuayi? You're having a laugh, two of the laziest players to wear the shirt.
Go Roy, just go.

One can play 4-4-2 using a 'Diamond' in midfield but with the width provided by attacking fullbacks.
One can play a more traditional 4-4-2 with once again the full-backs raiding the flanks so one has a more compact '4' in the midfield 'Engine room'.

It could be the 'Semi Circular', or 'Equilateral Triangle' or even possibly the 'Parallelogram' system.
No matter, if the players are played out of position. Square pegs round holes.
