I completely blame the board for the state of the squad. The money argument is a crap one - we're in a better financial position spending £15m on a Championship player who ends up being worth £30m than you are signing a player for free on £60k a week who is 35 by the end of their contract.

Watkins, Godfrey, Maddison, Benrahma, Bellingham, Bowen, Eze, Dan James ... it's shrewd. Only Brighton (Webster and Maupay for £40m) have stuffed it up.

What I blame Hodgson for is the belief that the 11 players we started with today are apparently so far below the level of the 11 that 18th place started with that we had to play with that little ambition. With the exception of Zaha, how different really was that from our first choice 11? Tomkins and McArthur probably play, Schlupp might, but these aren't big margins.

I hear the 'highest points record' statement, but that is highest points AT THIS STAGE. Our fixtures have been so kind - we all said at the start of the season we had to be safe by the start of March and we've arguably just about done it.

We've got Tottenham, United, Everton, Chelsea, Leicester and City in our next 8. 40 points for the season looks tough from here. Somehow, after 8 seasons in the PL, the team is in no better shape than any newly promoted side which is the failure of progress that gets everyone frustrated.

I'm encouraged that you and some others on here recognise that the responsibility for the current state of the squad extends beyond the manager.

Taking the points you have highlighted, I think you underestimate the impact caused by having so many players injured. With the games coming thick and fast it's important to have as many players at your disposal as possible.

We have had Zaha. He has been in our team since 2014 and for the first 3 years, we scraped survival. He was also part of the team that had lowest points per game of the 92 teams in the football league in 2016. Under Roy, he is having his best season with regards to goal involvement (goals + assists) of his career.

The biggest point you have made is that we are a mid-table premier league team. Prior Roy, we were relegation fodder. We spend the least year on year and we are a mid table team. Just imagine where we could be if we spent the sums Villa, Wolves and Fulham spend?

I’m all up for championship players if they improve our team. 2 of the 3 we have signed, don’t play.

Also, in 2021 only 6 teams have won more games than us this year. Everyone is saying how Fulham are playing well and Parker has turned it around. We have achieved the same points tally in the last 6 games.

Sorry to quote you twice, but that is the actual point and I missed it.

I'd like to see what Ferguson can do. Unfortunately for us and him, he is off for a long-term. Which at his age does not bode well.

The team still needs to figure out how to survive without Zaha. He is likely to leave in the summer and the question is do we trust Roy to fix it, or do we gamble on a new guy.

But the main point is that there is no big problem. There is concerns, but no.

If we are going to lose Zaha, who better to trust than our most successful premier league manager after 26 games.

What I've started noticing is that the commentators and summarisers are really struggling to say anything positive about Roy and our football, and are obviously trying hard not to slag off Roy because for some reason he seems beyond criticism in football circles due to his age. The female guest on BBC made a great point post match about how a player can motivate themselves to perform each week when they know we are going to play with zero positivity. The way our points total is heading we'll be ok this season and Roy can say goodbye to management with some degree of dignity in tact. Thank god we can then try and move beyond survival football.

For those old enough to recall Greece won the Euros many years ago employing similar tactics to Hodgson (only they were much better on set pieces).
That Greek team was made up of journeymen football players and in many ways it was a notable achievement to win a prestigious tournament.
But it had the effect of switching off a generation of fans such was the negativity of the approach.
And I could not name you one of their players today.
But I could easily name every player in the losing international tournament teams of Brazil and Holland in previous years such was the pleasure they brought to the eye.
They didn’t seek to kill off the opposition through boredom.
And so to Palace.

At present Zaha is our only injured forward if Schlupp is seen as a midfield player.
Today we played with Benteke, Ayew , Townsend and Eze and had Mateta and Batshuayi on the bench.
Not top quality perhaps, but surely good enough to take the game to the opposition at least at some stage during the game . To try to score a goal.To look like we had a smidgeon of attacking intent.
It’s surely not too much to ask.

Interesting to read on the club website that Hodgson praised Guaita's 'match-winning save'. I thought we drew this afternoon.

The spot light needs to be shone at Parish and the board for this mess. 8 seasons and £1bn of payments and all we can muster at home to third from bottom side is one freaking corner. Absolute dogs breakfast.

We have a Roy out thread here, yet many are blaming the board for our current situation. Fulham fielded a better team than us today which doesn’t resemble the side we beat at Craven Cottage earlier in the season. With an incredible 7 loanees on the pitch at one time this is a last role of the dice for them, yet they still couldn’t beat us.

We would be a different proposition if we had our best 11 on the pitch which we all seem to conveniently forget. So shouldn’t we judge Roy when he has his best 11 to choose from along with some backing from the board which has been clearly lacking for over 3 years now?

I’m not going to defend Roy tactics over the last 2 games but at the end of the day they stopped us getting dragged into a relegation scrap so I don’t really care how we played as long as we got points.

For most of this season Roy has persisted with that awful 4-4-2 formation that did not suit us and in my book that was worse than the way we have been set up the past 2 games.

People just need to realise that Roy has been given 1 task and that is to keep us in the league and by hook or by crook he will do that. He won’t care who he upsets along the way. The club have a plan for the future and it all revolves around staying in this division and progressing the squad, academy and stadium. If we go down we can certainly wave any hope of progress goodbye. The sooner some of our fans realise this, the better they will sleep at night.

Roy does not care how we play and Steve Parrish does not care how we play. All they want to do is stay in this division. Getting relegated this season will be a death sentence for 3 clubs so be thankful that you are us and not Sheffield United.

And brace yourselves for the fact that Roy will more than likely be in charge next season , because believe it or not he is actually doing the job he is asked to do by his boss and they are happy because ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS STAY IN THE LEAGUE.

I actually can't believe you're comparing us to the Greek side that won a knockout competition... Bizarre analogy..

Likis? Dowie signed him for our season in the prem under him.

Simple defensive football along with well planned set plays are a good way of approaching international tournaments where players have matches every 3 or 4 days in hot conditions.

Brazil won in 1994 when they adopted a much more conservative approach.

Although it didn't work for Roy. Who managed 1 win in 2014 and 2016 combined.

It was a pretty lucky win at that.

I'd ask the people who rekindled their love for international tournament in 2018 where they lost interest.
