So to me it makes no sense to extend Roy for a year and make the number of signings we will inevitably need only for a new guy to come in next year and want to change things. We have made initial investment in the squad in our early days back in the premier league (not year on year) but with the way things are at this particular point in time the additions we need might not cost the multi millions the once made might.
If we’re investigating in the squad and bringing in players it makes sense for that to be part of a bigger picture and longer term planning involving a new manager.
Maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

A sensible post. Why invest in Hodgson when he'll only be signing for a year? This is a clean slate opportunity to build with someone with an idea for the next 3/4/5 years.

Summer is clearly time for a change, our regular thrashings this season tell us that, the peerless Clinton Morrison on Sky said there would be big changes here in the summer and he and Jonathan Pearce have expressed the concerns made on these pages. So all those thinking that Parish will keep Roy and the squad overhaul will be less dramatic than we hope for are very probably barking up the wrong tree. We have to have back up but that will mainly mean that certain players who are regular in the first XI will be demoted to being squad players. We've been found out too many times this season, Parish knows the score and always does what is necessary to keep us up. I really see Howe becoming our new manager - you can always read things positively or negatively, but he has a proven track record and apart from the de Boer debacle, that's what Parish looks for, and his teams play the way Parish was hoping de Boer's Palace would do.

Makes perfect sense, but that's my point: can we really interview a shortlist of candidates, having got permission from their clubs, got that guy in the building, agreed targets with him, and also get a high number of signings done all in one shorter than usual summer?

Seems unlikely.

If Parish has agreed a deal with Howe then of course much of this falls away.

I believe that there is a period of secret courting under the guise of networking, conversations with agents and chance meetings in hotel rooms or nowadays Zoom calls

Good point about the timing of the changeover.

The formality adopted by Willo's online persona is fairly new as three months ago there was no such form of respectful address from Willo in this thread

In the final analysis, Roy Hodgson has secured PL survival in successive seasons on a relative pittance and on the back of long-term injuries.

I have reached the stage where I would far rather watch chess on live TV than watch us play our turgid brand of football.

Yesterday was totally and utterly dire and whoever we bring in, the football is the same.I suspect nothing will change whilst Hodgson is at the helm.

My personal view is that Hodgson delivers for Parish in that he keeps the club in the PL on a shoestring, in the meantime us supporters are 'short-changed' by having to witness total and utter dross game, on game.As far as the club are concerned the end justifies the means.

I suspect that if Hodgson keeps us in the PL this season and wants to continue for another year the club will be only too glad to extend his contract.

I have, as usual, been perusing the 'Daily Mail' today and will do so later over a glass of 'Tincture' !

As my dear wife once asserted in forthright fashion after I returned from Selhurst Park after a defeat "Your face is shouting Misery, misery!"

Going back to Hodsgon I believe we would have to collapse akin to 'Humpty Dumpty' for the club to rid him of his services.

If indeed Hodgson did single out Zaha for criticism it might be a ploy to get him to 'up' his game or it might reflect some sort of disagreement behind the scenes.

Clearly casting lines in the hope I bite but I shall refrain from doing so.

I believe the 'Thread' is best served by debating the matter under discussion.

What have the 2 chaps from a distance on the beach had to say recently? Haven’t heard of them for a while.

With 10 games left of the season I hope the club are getting a shortlist ready.

Only 2 management positions have come available this season and I think the club will be in a strong position to recruit if they act quickly with managers climbing over each other to get an opportunity in the best league in the world.

With Newcastle, Southampton, and Brighton likely to sack their managers at the end of the season, swift action is required to beat them to the punch.

Benitez would be my top choice. It is unlikely, but we managed to sign up Holloway, Pardew, and arguably De Boer were scalps with big reputations at the time. What's to say we can't get Rafa.

Dyche is a possibility if he is considering his position at Burnley again, if Fulham get relegated Parker would make an excellent manager. Then depending on who doesn't get promoted Franks and Cooper are good candidates from the Championship.

Then there's plenty of others available, Coleman and Howe seem to be stating their case everytime they go on TV. Lampard, Wagner, Terry, Klinsmann all outside possibilities.

Following the Euro's it's a possibility that a number of international managers could leave. Southgate had managed to get England through international tournaments with pride rather than the total embarrassment of 2014 which was only topped by 2016.

I'm sure there's many other candidates that could come from left field. The end of this season will be a really good time to go shopping for a new manager.

well researched Midlands, it's quite sunny today, you may want to put your visor on and take leave of your bunker. I recommend a walk and a bit of fresh air.

No more to add on this piffling matter.
