What a shocking post match interview. Show some balls man and say what it really was. It was a shocking performance with zero shots on target in the entire match. He is defending the indefensible, I would prefer it if he came out and criticised the players and promised to do something about it.

The main problem is that he thinks that kind of performance is acceptable and we will always be bang average until that mentality goes.

Mr Hodgson treated with a degree of disdain the comment put to him about NO shots on target, asserting that there were opportunities with the ball driven across the box, whilst accepting that the team did not create any concrete chances.

Mark Warburton at QPR does not look at the possession statistics, just chances created in a game and last night we created absolutely NOTHING.

Roy will not be getting sacked half way through a season where we are not in danger of relegation. The big question will be is he going to get a contract extension?

If he happens to finish the season strongly then there is every chance that he will be kept on, especially if Parrish doesn’t have a suitable replacement and at this moment in time none of us seem to be able to come up with suitable replacement options.

We are in danger of relegation, you just don’t see that because we are 11 points from 3rd from bottom and that team has 2 games in hand over us. We will get dragged down there in the coming couple of months with the way we are playing under RH. Hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am :-(

Steve Parrish will not sack Roy Hodgson and that’s a given so Roy should put the club first and walk away or perhaps change his role within the club and let someone else take over the running of the team

Yes I agree that relegation is a real possibility.

The squad resembles 'Dad's Army' and is creaking like the hip joints of an octogenarian harlot.
We lack vim, vigour, pace and energy, with some players past their best.
We are not even halfway through the season, the players are not going to get any younger and discover the elixir of youth and the only way we are heading is 'South'.

Well, the way infections are rising in the football community, I think we are heading towards another COVID related break.

That will either give our old boys a much needed rest, or it will result in another nose dive in form as happened last time.

Same old same old! Complete lack of game plan beyond “keep it defensively tight and solid”.

Usual changes at 70 minutes when it’s too late for the players coming on to impact the game.

Why can’t we start the game with an attack minded formation and encourage our numerous creative players to express themselves .

Got to bite the bullet and buy a striker who will give us more than CB and once safe got to get a new manager in who will help us move beyond the same old restricted, narrow defensive football that gets the odd result but is no fun to watch!

Another pathetic performance sucking the life out of Palace fans. This is not what football is about.

Fed up. Season can’t end soon enough and Roy steps down off his own accord. If he lasts that long.

Relegation has always been a real possibility, and probably always will be. We are the 16th highest spenders in the league and can't spend a lot more due to FFP, so why would we not be looking over our shoulder every season?

Which leads me to two (genuine) questions for those so dissatisfied with the football played under Hodgson:

1. Which Premier league teams, with a comparable budget to ours, have played a style of football you'd be happy with at Palace whilst also achieving adequate results?

Southampton under Hasenhuttl perhaps? Otherwise I really can't think of anyone. Bournemouth, Norwich, Fulham, Huddersfield, Stoke. Swansea West Brom and maybe Watford all played arguably better stuff than us in recent years but didn't get results. Meanwhile Burnley, us and even Newcastle under the lauded Benitez all survived playing anti-football.

2. Is there a time you were happy with the football Palace played in the top flight that could be replicated now?

I didn't see the team of the 80s, though I do know they got relegated. I'd love for us to play like Coppells early 90s side and rough the big boys up a bit, but we'd get two or three red cards a week.

Various coaches couldn't do anything to keep us in the Premier league for more than a single season until this recent spell, in which Pulis and Allardyce were anti-football advocates and got results. Pardew tried to develop the style but lost the trust of the club along the way.

I really can't think of a time Palace stayed in the top flight playing anything other than negative football.

When I ask myself these two questions I can only conclude that, even with his evident faults, Roy Hodgson is not the problem at Palace. Instead he is a symptom and a logical consequence of the actual problem which is, and has always been, that a club like ours is overwhelmingly unlikely to stay up playing anything other than negative football.

Time and football moves on. Making comparisons to different eras is difficult to judge. The key is to keep moving forward. Currently I feel we are stagnated. Hodgson is only part of the issue. None the less should be doing better in my opinion.

Fair (but depressing) assessment.

In many ways posts like this make me even more angry about last night - if one is going to be pragmatic in the league due to necessity, then f***ing well “have a go” in cup games (for us, the fans)
