Hodgson is a wordsmith- he is articulate and media savvy and comes across in a knowledgeable way, BUT if you analyse what he says, it is the same each week and everything that he says by way of improvement required, is never fulfilled. I take your wider point about the league being a closed shop for managers, and agree that every new appointment in the dugout is a gamble to some extent, but that's the point. I don't think enough people see replacing Roy as a gamble - too many think it is bound to be an improvement. It's not.

Finally, and this I think is the main thing for most people, the style of football Frank plays is better than Roy's. Well, yes, but so was the style Palace played under Freedman and Holloway when we had one of the better squads in the championship. It was when we got to the premier league that we found it was not so simple. I would of course support Frank if we went for him, or Howe, or anyone else, but I think it will only be when we have replaced him that some will see how well Hodgson, for all his obvious faults, has done. I think that's a pretty fair post. The one point that's missing from it and much of the debate is that Roy is 73. Even if we were to keep him, every season starts with the idea that it might be his last. For as long as that continues, we can only be treading water because we can't ever have a 2 year plan. We've got three additional years out of the league from Roy and for that I think he'll get credit. I still struggle with the question of were we to go down this year, what do we have to show for it? We'll soon be able to say a new academy, but it'd be a comparatively poor training ground, a squad poorly equipped to do well in a 46 game Championship season due to age and contract lengths, and no stadium progress. As long as we have a manager on the verge of retirement, I don't feel we're able to plan and therefore progress. On the basis that Roy will go sometime 'soon', that time being prior to June 30th 2021 feels as good a time as any. 26th January 2010 - Enter Administration 2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough 1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds 7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

I have been a big defender of Roy over the last few years especially because our squad is so weak and with our constant injuries I felt he was achieving as much as possible with the players available but I am now firmly in the Roy out camp but not till the season is over. My main reason for this is because of his insistence on sticking with this awful 4-4-2 system that leaves us absolutely run ragged in midfield. I can not for the life of me figure out why he is sticking with it. It is not his fault that we have such an unbalanced squad but it is his fault that he keeps playing this way. I was never concerned about relegation but after watching that horror show last night I am praying Fulham don't start winning games because we look in trouble. With the players we have and the systems they know how to play under Roy then it is an absolute no brainer to get back to 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 formation. Get Luka back into the only position he should be playing in (sitting in front of the back 4)then we have Kouyate, McCarthy, Jairo, McCarthur to fill the other 2 centre mid roles with Eze and Zaha as part of the front 3 or midfield 5 depending on if we have the ball or not. Roy finally has options in attack but he is making an absolute mess of this by sticking with that rigid front 2 of Benteke and Zaha.
