Some fans will accept any type of football as long as results come.
Others take a different view and believe it’s possible to achieve decent results without playing anti football.
Both views can co-exist.

As Jose said the other night it's no use scoring four goals if you let five in at the other end. Trying to play like that did for Pardew in the end. 4-5 v relegated Swansea!

I see.
Therefore both views can’t co-exist because of what Jose said and because of Pardew.
Fair enough.

That 5-4 result keeps getting wheeled out but Pardew has a better win percentage than Hodgson, and took the club to a cup final.

Yes I think they can.

But let's face it, you don't appoint Roy for his free flowing, attacking football a la Bielsa.

Clearly Steve Parish values results over entertainment.

I can only view the situation as a fan rather than as Steve Parish.
Ultimately Parish is going to have to appoint a replacement at some point because Hodgson is not a long term option and it will be interesting to see the direction that Parish takes.
You would think with the addition of Eze, Ferguson and Mateta ,and other younger players under consideration , that we would be looking at a more progressive manager who would encourage rather than restrict their development .

Both views , are all part of football , both have a certain validity..
In practise it’s rarely one or the other. But more a case of what a particular squad is better at. At the end of the day it’s still a sport , and all the time we have relegation often leading to financial ruin achieving results by hook or by crook can be seen as a necessity .
One things for sure any team that loses the ability to win ugly, or refuse to try ugly, is not going to succeed for long.
I agree that Palace are in a bit of a rut, but not that a managerial change is the only thing needed for them to play a more expansive entertaining game week in week out. In short change manager without far more support than this one has had and try being a poor mans Man,C , and we will very soon be with all the others that had the dream, in the Championship trying to get our confidence back
This is not to say good footballing teams can not be created. But the best examples at this time would be, Leeds, maybe Wolves, we will see, how Wolves get on, both were created over two or three seasons of work in the Championship, with good money spent . Brighton, are trying hard , to do it from a low base in the Premier, but which way will that go? If they pull it off fine , but a rare achievement.

I suppose you didn't notice that we were fast heading for the Championship, something that hasn't happened with Roy.

When Pardew departed we were 17th after 17 PL games having attained 15 pts.

Yes and probably heading for Championship football unless he had been sacked.

In Pardew's last season, after 14 games we were 14th, after 15 games we were 15th, after 16 games, we were 16th and after 17 games we were 17th just a point above the relegation zone.
We weren't going in the right direction and Pardew was removed from office after 17 games.

Parish has to. The financial consequences of relegation would be catastrophic.
