The other thing in relation to this is if Roy doesn't know about contracts etc as he states, then it doesn't sound like he's planning for next season at all. Surely, if was hugely interested in staying, he would be asking questions himself? Just conjecture really, but there's something not quite right about having so many out of contract and the manager knows nothing. I guess it could just be that he didn't want to give any information out?
The whole thing sounds very short term.

Yep, I agree it does sound odd. I still think he's bluffing though. Think about it, the place must be a hotbed of chat and if Roy doesn't pick up on some of this stuff it would be very strange indeed.

In normal circumstances yes, but he said in the interview that he's only at the ground on match days. The rest of the time he's at Beckenham. He did hint, though, that he wasn't being totally open in his answers but also wasn't telling any lies, or that's how I read it.

I know this might seem an odd suggestion given the position they're in, but I actually still think Chris Wilder could do a good job if he left Sheffield Utd this season. They have a weak squad and have been beset by injuries, but tactically he does seem to have some interesting ideas and a willingness to make adjustments mid-game (often switching between 3-5-2 and 4-4-2). I think Warnock suggested him when he left us last time round. He is a life long Sheffield Utd fan though, so it is perhaps unlikely that he will quit.

It was big fat Sam who recommended Chris

There’s probably only a few people in the know as to what’s going to happen or the possibilities of what might happen. It won’t be difficult to keep it quiet if they want to. Parish, freedman, Teflon Phil Alexander and the shareholders overseas. It’s nobody else’s business and Parish is more than capable of keeping it that way.

Has anyone mentioned Gareth Southgate as an option?

No idea if he’s keen to join club management again and aware he’s onto a good thing with England BUT he’s someone who is vastly experienced at blooding through youth whilst remaining tactically astute.

The work he’s done/doing with England will no doubt cast respect.

His managerial career at club level hasn’t been shocking and was sacked whilst Middlesbrough were still pushing for promotion.

What’s more, he’s an ex-Palace player!

Reasonable suggestion and I do like the fact he's a Palace old boy.

Can't see him leaving the England job though and no sign of him being moved on yet.

Back to the drawing board.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Agreed. What's interesting is that they are keeping their plans secret from everyone. Us, Hodgson, the players, the press.

Unusual in itself.

I’d rather another 73 years of Roy. Absolute melt Southgate can’t stand him!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Why would Roy be at the ground other than match days? I would think the same is true for most managers.

The training ground is where the football side of things happens apart from match days.

The ground is where the " customer facing " stuff happens, club shop, ticket office etc.

With many clubs the back office is usually at the training ground, medical, Roy's office etc.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

How come you don’t like Southgate so much?

The more I think about it, the more I like the thought. I reckon he’d fit Parish’s mold- consummate professional, will look to utilise the academy that Parish has spent so much money and energy on, could bring a fresher image to the club and may well be prepared to stay longer term as opposed to Pulis/Allardyce. What’s more, I can’t see Gareth being overly demanding with the need to spend big. He strikes me as a realist, level headed guy who will buy into our project.
