In the case of Ferguson we mugged ourselves off

Has the guy ever played during the winter months ? , the first falling leaf and he hibernates longer than a bear in Alaska. As for CW, who in any right mind would seriously give him another contract, pay per play, in regards to Tekkers finding form ?? 5 goals in a season Is the form that gets you benched and a firm boot out the door at any other club except the 5th dimension that is Selhust.

I’m not being harsh. If you had a manual work contract and didn’t do any work for about 70% of that contract would you have expected to be paid and full pay to boot? I’m sure he’s gutted to be injured but that is not a reason to even consider extending his contract.

As I said, there's no reason whatsoever to extend his contract, but I'm always surprised at how people get angry with footballers for being injured.

How many times have we slaughtered players for a lack of physical commitment and courage? We are the first ones to say they should put their bodies at risk of injury as that's what they are paid to do. We can't then not pay them when they get injured.

Eh? Speak some sense lad. Wilf has just about top scored this season playing through the middle, while Benteke is finally scoring again. And Wickham's probably on the bench as he's fit again...and a fit Wickham is a decent option off the bench.

Really .. Wilf is an out and out winger( he scores because no other player is able to) .. playing him through the middle means we then shift several players into positions they don’t play .. Eze and Ayew are not wingers .. Ayew our top scorer last season shifted and dropped for Tekkers .. 5 goals in a season isn’t a rejuvenated 100k a week striker in any dimension.

A fit CW was last seen several years ago .. his place in the bench is blocking under 23s opportunity, he’s out of contract and has no future at the club, so why waste time on him. We have Matea sat on the bench .. scored his first goal, gets subbed and doesn’t get on the pitch for the last 3 games, gobsmacking management, why get him on loan with a view to buy them don’t play him in favour of Tekkers who has bled the club dry over the last 4 seasons.

Matete did get on the pitch at Tottenham with about 15 mins remaining with the game basically lost.
Hodgson trusts Benteke more than Matete and in 'Tight' games leaves Benteke on the field of play.

Put their bodies at risk of injury? Please don’t make me laugh, Wickham could get injured walking down the local takeaway. I can’t ever remember him putting his body on the line other than lying down so he could be carted off again.

I don’t actually mind him as a player but he should never have been given a contract extension last time. Total waste of money.

It’s giving contracts out to players like this that contributes to our best youngsters not signing professional contracts with us. They just cannot see a pathway to the first team when journeymen like Wickham are still about. I see we have lost another one today.

It doesn’t bode particularly well for the future of our academy either if our youngsters just disappear as soon as they get scouted by a decent club.

Get rid of the deadwood quickly I reckon and we can start this with Wickham, Sakho and probably a few others whose legs have gone.

I wouldn't disagree with you when you say that we shouldn't have given Wickham another deal, but then that's an easy thing to say in hindsight isn't it? At the time he seemed to have got over the worst of his injuries, done OK out on loan, and even got a couple of goals for us. There was logic in giving him another year to see if we could get something back on the investment (be it a transfer fee or a player for the team). It's was hardly a mega-deal we gave him was it? I doubt it sunk the club. A calculated risk, as are all signings and contracts.

Not sure how exactly he 'blocked a path' to the first team for a youth player. Nobody ever does that, as youth team players don't count towards the clubs 25 man Premier League squad. What actually happens is that youth players compete with first senior players for a place in the side, which is exactly how it should be. If the kids we've had over the time Wickham was fit for selection were better then him then they'd have played. I can't think of any who ended up going elsewhere and proving Palace wrong.

Of course players risk injury, that's exactly what a professional sportsperson lives with. Wickham didn't get injured walking down the local takeaway did he? He got injured in his line of work, as a professional footballer.

If ever there was a case for “ pay as you play” Connor Wickham is that candidate. I think I have seen him play 4 times in 6 years one of those appearances being at Wembley. Which is most probably more than most have seen him play.

With the laughable and revealing comment that he offers more defensively. I laughed but the football has not been funny.

Benteke defends the near post at corners and has made several headed clearances in that position.
His ball-retention is also better than Matete at this juncture.

On this one I just don't care. The defenders can defend corners. The strikers can score. Obviously not if you're Benteke, however. How do we know anything about Mateta and ball retention? Has he even played 90 minutes yet? If he's not actually a better player than Benteke he may as well give up now and change career.
