I've seriously considered whether to renew my ticket for 2 seasons, so dull is our play at times and I'm not going to change my mind that Roy should go, latest, at the end of the season. Unless of course Benteke's confidence builds, Eze's continues to grow and what is, on paper at least, a strong (and expensive) team starts to get the points it should. Under those circumstances the prospect of Roy being given another season would not be quite as miserable as it seems right now.

I agree totally with your comments,watching the first half performance against WBA I found myself screaming at the television as I was so frustrated by our negative play.Constant passing backwards when good forward passes were on,half hearted pressing giving the opponents time to pass it around and through us.As a Roy supporter I finally lost it and yelled get him out and put in someone who will play a more attacking style especially against the weaker sides.The second half proved we can play that way with the shackles off and so confirmed to me Unfortunately Roy needs to be replaced.

They see the best squad we have probably had and an unaffordable wage bill but neglect to notice the squads of those teams around us. We have the 15th ranked squad by value. Add in the age/injury factor, any place we finish above 15th is a good return and probably down to coaching. Parish described the club as 10% potential when he bought in 2010; and today about 40% of what it could be. We are just not as good as people on here think we are. If we stay in this division, add a decade and we should have a top half team in value, income and rewards. But to get there, we need to stay with a bit dull, cautious and safe. Leeds and the Baggies show what open, exciting football can bring if you don't have the squad and coaching to pull it off. It ain't pretty but it works.

Until we have new owners and a rebuilt stadium with increased capacity where is the money coming from? I don't think we are punching above our weight I think between 10-15th is about par considering our squad. Brighton have spent net £200m to our net £50m over the last 5 years are they 4 times better than us? Edited by Badger11 (07 Dec 2020 10.53am)

I do get very frustrated when wondering what Palace might turn up for a game. This can be against any opposition of varying ability. We can be very good, we can be abysmal ...both from the same set of players. However(tin hat)... I'm not sure there is a viable alternative at the moment. Wanting a change can be a leap into the dark ... a bit like voting for Brexit ?

No tin hat should be required, the ultra-shrewd bargain priced additions of Ayew and McCarthy last season combined with playing very tight kept us in mid table despite the AWB money not being reinvested in the squad - Eze is the only example of Roy being backed in the market so Parish should take at least as much blame as Roy, but the turgid bus parking cannot go on indefinitely, the wheels have shown signs of coming off this season but we have enough about us to keep us well away from trouble. We need a new midfield - or a suitable partner for Riedewald, and a plan for a post Wilf future which will involve our attacking threat not being over reliant on one player, I don't think Roy is the person to take us that place even though I'm not as unappreciative of his efforts as some on here.

Judging from the responses, most would have been disappointed with 6 points, although high scoring games against Leeds and West Brom have tipped the balance. Many of Roy's biggest supporters don't seem to be forthcoming with what they think is an acceptable performance, often quoting Simon Jordan's cliche "be careful what you wish for". I saw a poster on another thread which said something like "well done croydon Roy, he'll keep us up again". This seems to be setting the bar quite low. It seems like people that are supporting him are happy on the basis that we have a fairly mild mannered manager who is a) from Croydon and b) will avoid relegation. It reminds me a bit of the section in Be Careful What You Wish For, where Jordan complains about the excessive celebrations after Stockport despite having a season only narrowly avoided being a complete disaster. On the face of it, our results are fine, when you scratch the surface a lot of issues start to emerged. As you have noted 9 of our points have come from the 3 promoted teams, 6 from teams that were unprepared for the start of the season and 1 from a dreadful Brighton side. The red card on Sunday was a turning point, but you can only play whats in front of you. All the result tells us is that we can score when we take teams on. The bigger question is how we are going to start picking up points from established premier league sides? Currently I'm content with Roy, but we should ask him to stand down gracefully when a better replacement can be sourced.
