An interesting and fair summary from the Stoke fan.
Butland clearly has all the attributes to be a top goalkeeper and the fact that he hasn’t cracked on seems to be linked to bad luck, injuries and loss of confidence.
Some keepers never really recover their erstwhile form - think Joe Hart and Petr Cech - but Butland is only 27 and Palace tend to be well organised defensively which should help.

I think this is an excellent point both Clyne and Butland need to regain form and fitness they would not want to be part of a defence like Bournemouth or Norwich. I think this is where Roy attracts players he is all about the basics when it comes to defending.

Fingers crossed for both of them.

Somebody that good doesn't stop being that good. Physically.

Sounds like he needs a different environment our excellent goalie coaches and the best sports psychologist our money can buy.

And Roy.

If guita stays fit I think he has just under a year in development and the cup to see if can get his mojo back.

Otherwise if guita gets crook over the next few months (and to answer the poster who questions why we bought him) we have Henderson or butland to cover.

Which begs the question as to why we bought Henderson in the first place. This also means we now have a squad with 4 senior goalkeepers. There can’t be many teams willing to waste an outfield spot on a goalkeeper who will never be used.

I doubt that will happen. Hennessey is unlikely to be back before the next transfer window and may be excluded, therefore, from the 25 man squad to be announced next week. Come January and the club can look to loan out or sell Henderson or (presumably) Hennessey. I say presumably Hennessey rather than Butland because we've signed the latter on a 3 year deal. Unless that was forced on us due to time constraints then I imagine the club see Butland as a replacement for Hennessey/Henderson or possibly Guaita if they think he'll be moving on soon.

On the face of it I’m delighted we’ve signed a capable reserve goalie with pedigree, and wish Wayne all the best with his fight back to fitness and a new club (please).

However, if form and confidence are as low as our friend Zomzoms from Stoke just posted then I just hope this isn’t another Benteke... fingers crossed our management and coaching team can bring Butland back to top form.

At least Butland hasn't cost the best part of £30m plus obscene wages.

Do you mean the Brasilian? We signed him on loan with an option to buy but chose not to take it up so he went back home.

That's him!!!! We seem to release all our young goalkeepers.

Sounds like a bargain and only 27. Good to see Clyne get a deal, was loyal to the club back in the day and I’m sure will do a job.
