It’s irrelevant where we have come from and whether if it grinds your gears or not, people are simply talking about the merits (or not) of one of our players.
There was NOTHING to enjoy about watching him last season or in the most recent two games. He was very poor last year and awful to watch too. Slowing the game down, side wards or backward passes with none of the flair he has built his reputation on. Exactly the same in our most recent game which, penalty aside, was probably the worst and least effective 90 minutes he’s ever played for us.
He is a sulker and a moaner and teams know how easy he is to wind up. As has also been mentioned the transfer Window circus over recent seasons has been pathetic and embarrassing. Perhaps an accurate reflection of how he is these days as a person.
Far too inconsistent, lacking in end product and has lost his electrifying pace. He’d be a bench warmer at best for any serious Champions League side.

He used to be VERY good...but isn’t any more.

5 goals in 6 plus one assist for a team that would be right in the relegation mix without him.

That is exceptional product. But he can't drop off.

Much improved attitude and effort from Wilf today.

Maybe the expectations of him to beat Bright*n all on his own were getting to him last week...

Regardless, let’s hope he keeps it up. MoM today?

Yes mom. The fact is, doing it at the sharp end is so hard. Yet he was almost unplayable.

no...its not at all, it should help keep us grounded, appreciate the fact we are currently in the most successful period in our clubs entire history.

whilst doing so, we are watching the best player ever to play for the club, yes over the years he and his game has changed, but its no stick to beat him with...he has been lethal so far this season.

maybe i am delusional but i wont have a bad word said about wilf and would defend him to the hilt.

with regards to the yearly summer zaha transfer saga...i take it as a compliment we have a player so highly regarded by the rest of the football world that he is linked with huge clubs.

in 10 years time when, or whenever the cycle of football takes us back to being a mid-table championship club, we will look back on this era as halcyon times!

lets enjoy these times, and wilf zaha for what they are, and stop pining for levels we will probably never reach unless we get brought by a billionaire saudi princd.

When discussing the merits of Wilf (the subject matter of this thread), where the club have come from in years gone by - is irrelevant. It has no bearing on his performances, his ability, his value or his prospects.

He was much better today but one assist and a tap in from 3 yards doesn’t hide the fact he has been poor and underperforming on the whole for far too long and he is a shadow of the player he was 3 to 4 Seasons ago. His headed miss at 1-0 up was a shocker and could’ve cost us dear.

Any huge clubs made offers? Or just his agents trying to start a bit of interest.
The only big club I know of , signed the other Ivory Coast winger , instead of Zaha ??

I know, I know. There have been a hundred Wilfried Zaha threads. I won't pretend this one is hugely different.

Except what I think is pertinent right now is that Wilf's career is truly at its final crossroads, as evidenced in our last two games. This summer, it would seem he was humiliated by desperately pushing to leave, only to discover that nobody appeared to want him.

Then, Roy Hodgson was essentially questioning his contribution to the Brighton game.

I lost a lot of love for Wilf over the summer with the idiotic, tiresome circus of his people -- and Zaha himself (by which I mean his ill-advised Dubai thing) -- seemingly throwing himself like a drunk old man at a disco onto any would-be lover.

Then the Man U game came and he was sensational: electric movement, leadership, skill, pace and power. In short, a one-off world-class display. It appeared to reflect the ethic of a player who had worked hard all close-season to ensure he could showcase his talents.

Nobody will ever know what Wilf did or didn't do against Chelsea and Brighton: how much was him and how much was Roy's system, but what's clear is that he was essentially absent from those games. Then to have been criticized by Roy will have stung.

So now here we are.

Is he going to deliver, or is he not? If Wilf fails to deliver significantly before the January transfer window (and I mean from right now), then I think he will finish his career at Selhurst Park, wondering what might he have been. Knowing he could have done so much more with his talents than he actually did. Champions League games, championships...so much more.

So Wilf is at a crossroads. I for one hope that he moves in January because it would mean the penny has dropped that only his absolute, level best, week-in, week-out offers him a sliver of hope for the move he craves. Then we sell him for a viable fee, from a position of upper-mid-table security, that helps us to rebuild. And he gets his golden chance and the story ends well.

If not, then what does he really offer to the sort of team that he thinks he's worthy of playing for? An inconsistent, 28-year-old sulker.

I really don't think he will be able to sulk his way out of Selhurst park (to the kind of club he wants to go to): he's too well remunerated for that.

His only hope is to start playing like the talent we all know he is... starting at Craven Cottage tomorrow.

It is a binary moment in his life. I for one hope he sees it.

Perfect.

People go on at Wilf's age - 28. That's a peak and it can be maintained. Vardy's 33 is he?

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

I love Wilf and hope he stays here for years, playing at his creative and energetic best.

My only criticism is when he complains about fouls not given, as I think it hurts his standing with referees in the long run. Still, I can't imagine what it must be like to be so gifted that the opposition chooses to target you repeatedly, ruthlessly and, at times, even violently.

Now I'm not making a comparison of the players, just a comparison about the comments made.

Raheem Sterling: What a great player he has become now scoring goals on a regular basis... The vast majority are 3 yard tap ins... but he's great because he gets there.

Today he missed two one on ones with the goalkeeper..... no comment.

19 times out 0f 20 when he receives the ball on the left wing he simply passes it back (how often does he manage to beat an opponent and cross the ball).....but he's really exciting to watch.

Wilf scores and....it was only from three yards.
Wilf misses a chance .... he's got no end product
Wilf gets kicked up in the air week in week out...he's just a sulker.

This is a brilliant player that we have and we have had many magical moments from him over many years. I know he wasn't able to produce his best last year or against Chelsea and Brighton but I really do not think he warrants the negativity he gets on here.

If Wilf plays to the peak of his potential he’s one of the best wingers around, one of the most effective, and one of the moat exciting.

His finishing has improved as has his passing and he certainly improved the last few years in tracking back too when out wide.

Unfortunately he does not do this with enough consistency which can lead to frustration as a palace fan but quite frankly if he did there is no way he would still be a palace player.

A big move has never materialised which might be disappointing for him and we may just count ourselves lucky he still plays in red and blue. As for what the future holds I have no idea but if he maintains this goals to games ratio it may well be his time.

I have never once travelled to a palace game (in modern times anyway) and thought ‘I hope Zaha doesn’t play today’. That says it all for me.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
