Possession is a pointless stat, Fulham had plenty but did nothing with it, just passed sideways constantly, they scored from speculative shot from outside the box. We looked threatening everytime we went forward.

Yeah, plus watching a side defend well with aggression and courage is a great part of football, and is entertaining in its own way. Townsend is getting positive reviews today in large part because he got stuck right in today. His performance today was every bit as much the definition of 'good football' as anything else.

Here are the ratings...
Guiata 7, Clyne 6, Kouyate 8, Dann 7, Mitchell 7, Luka 7, Jairo 9, Townsend 7, Schlupp 6, Michy 8, Wilf 9.

The Dutchman is fast becoming one our best players so good to see someone who can pass the ball to his own team and work hard .

Sorry, not having Jairo 9 and Townsend 7. Other way around for me.

Great result obviously. But I dont like the way we surrender possession so readily. I can understand it against the big guns but against lesser teams we should be more pro-active and make THEM defend. We are giving teams the opportunity to get back in the game. Fulham only took one chance but they hit the woodwork twice and it could have been a different story,

Fulham really should have got the ball on to Mitrovics head, Scott had an afternoon off.

A welcome win good performances all round, what's there not to like?

Well playing in that way against top half teams we will get thrashed, we were better on the ball but don't retain it well.

Haven’t watched much of Fulham this year but in the pre-match they were saying that Fulham like to play possession football and we seem happy to concede it. I’m not particularly happy about it myself, but that is the way we play.

It is very difficult to alter a defending system especially when all the players are playing it so well, but the way we play allows teams to pass the ball around too well because we don't get close enough in the way Townsend did today especially in second half, perhaps if we had played with more of Townsend's determination of today we could've upset Chelsea and Brighton A little bit more allowing our forward play to actually appear.

As much as Riedwald has been a revelation , and had his doubters I also still believe Mayer could be of the same elk if given an proper amount of game time.Reidwald and mayer are our most technical gifted players in my opinion.

I don't disagree with you - Riedewald has had a really tough time to get any sort of run in the team and we are now starting to see the best of him. Max could potentially show the same sort of progress given the chance. I just think he is a bit lightweight for the league and I'm not sure where he would fit in? I don't doubt he is a very skilful player though.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

Mayer is like a stag weekend. Could end up costing us deer.

Townsend has this amazing ability to fool people into thinking he played better than he did. Sometimes it’s something as simple as chafing down a back pass when he’s got zero chance of winning the ball. He was very good today but never a 9. Jairo was better than him.

Sorry but I disagree with this, he defended, tackled, got blocks in and broke up play all game and got forward and got an assist, quality all round

Personally I'd say that the difference is Riedewald can get away with his shortcomings whilst Meyer can't.

Riedewald is a bit too heavy and slow, slightly cumbersome. That explains why he hasn't ever been trusted at centre back or left back, where sharp wingers and forwards would skin him. In midfield that's less of an issue, and he can even use his bulk to good effect from time to time.

Meyer is skinny, weak, and slow. There just isn't a position we could play him in where that wouldn't matter. Even with our policy of extending contracts to preserve the value of failed players, I'd be amazed if we offered him a deal, and surprised if he then ended playing regularly at a good club in a top league.

But that's just my opinion.
