Roy will not have spent 3 years drilling his defensive set up to give it up on a whim. All pundits and commentators acknowledge how difficult we are to score against.

Cheikhou Kouyaté does not even make your bench? Think he has been a stand out performer in our defence.

3 at the back:

Guaita
Tompkins Cahill PVA
Townsend Luka Jairo Schlupp
Eze
Zaha Batshuayi

Bench: Ayew, McCarthy, McArthur, Dann, Ferguson, Banks, Butland

go on Roy, you know you want to.

No place for Cheikh with a back 3 I'm afraid, the best XI is not always the best eleven players.

he did and look what happened - we may revert to being more defensive, I'm sure it just depends who we're playing, having more attacking threat was the right choice v Leeds, and McArthur played well today whereas he has been chasing the game against better sides lately, Jairo will keep his place no doubt, but MCarthy will parter him instead of McArthur at some point, and Schlupp will come back in, perhaps Eze may threaten Andros's place on the right side of midfield - we were less predictable today and I hope that's what continues

Yes ..and it appears Roy is an exhibitionist.

You only play 3 at the back if you have dynamic fullbacks capable of playing as wingbacks and they then become the most difficult roles on the pitch as they must play as both attacker and defender. PVA at his best maybe could play this role but we have no-one at right back at present who can.

Playing 3 at the back also requires your 3 to have a turn of speed which we lack from all ours who play there. So for numerous reasons we cannot IMO set up like that at the back.

The best we can hope for is that our full backs overlap our left and right side midfield a bit more and get some decent crosses in.

I think Andros could be converted to right wing back. His defending has improved and even Traore at Wolves plays there sometimes. A winger can definitely play that role.
